¿Did you ever imagine sailing in a triangle-shape yacht, designed in the most elegant, simple and sophisticated way possible? This is a reality, and a revolutionary idea where two renowned brands came together, whose initials give name to this floating home: Wally Hermès Yachts (WHY).

Wally Hermès Yachts presents a never before seen yacht, 58 meters long by 38 meters of arm. WHY is a subsidiary that was born on June 2008 to create a new type of boat, a place to live in the sea without equivalent like the experts have characterized it.

A new art of living in the sea where Wally and Hermès worked together shoulder by shoulder, in interior as in exterior design alike, where the keys to do it was definitely the space but above all the stability in this yacht. Maximum stability that is found especially in the stern.

In the interior there’s plenty of material like buffalo skin treated to be water  resistant. At the exterior, light colored and white wood, a result of three great ones like Luca Bassani Antivari, president and Wally’s CEO, who enjoys minimalism, of the sober and natural design; Pierre-Alexis Dumas, artistic director of  Hermès and Gabriele Pezziny, design director of Hermès .

It was in Göteburg, Sweden where the tests were made in a big tank to know the behavior once it was on the sea and the results didn’t hesitate. For this several energetic needs were considered like sustainable technology.  Example: thermal recycle, plus almost 900 square meters of photovoltaic panels.

The Idea

Its look is similar to the one of an amphitheater and  they say when Luca Bassani would flip through a naval magazine he discovered the image of a giant vessel that was used for earthquake studies, a patented model by a Norwegian naval engineer.

Nevertheless, he decided to call his naval architect, Mauro Sculli who consulted the classifications of the Italian navy register (Rina) and discovered the patent didn’t include the yacht market. That’s how the helmet of this impressive yacht was born.

Destined to Find Each Other

Hermès-sur-Terre”, “Wally-sur-mer” those were the words with which Luca Bassani explained the roads of both brands that were meant to find each other.

The WHY has a huge space that flow towards the interior where the natural light reigns.

Its photovoltaic panels cover the function of the lateral ship crystals and in the roof (which is retractile).

Something very important and that we must not forget to mention is that due to the specific helmet design, less energy to the speed of a cruise ship is required in a ship of the same size.

It was also very important that there were no sharp edges or cutting materials that may injure the people, the philosophy was simple, and everything has to be pleasant to the touch and free of danger.

The excellent ventilation and cooling of all the systems, even of a food cellar, must be highlighted. It has even been thought to plant a small green house to cultivate vegetables.

With all this, WHY is a bet for a smooth life style, quiet and with the space, relaxation and stability something not ordinary when speaking about a vessel, which is amidst in this new fusion of ideas and technologies.
