Located in Baden-Wurttemberg, in southwestern Germany, the Black Forest is a wooden mountain range bordered by the Rhine valley. The forest mainly consists of pines and firs, and the main industry of the area is devoted to tourism, specifically to cross-country skiing and mountain biking tours. There are many old towns in the Black Forest. Popular destinations include Freiburg, Calw, Gengenbach, Staufen, amongst others. The Schwarzwälder Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof is an open-air museum which shows the life of sixteenth and seventeenth century farmers.
