The inhabitants of Ratanakiri have domesticated and worked with them since the beginning of civiliza- tion. However, they are currently in serious danger of extinction, not only throughout the kingdom, but in many regions of the planet. For 10 years, the Kingdom of Cambodia has worked hand in hand with other organizations to promote responsible tourism that allows visi- tors to interact with elephants without posing any threat to this superb animal. They have raised awareness in the communities and ethnic groups so that they recognize the advantages of coexist- ing with them in a friendly manner, and, above all, the importance of preserving their natural en- vironment. Different areas and conservation pro- grams have been created in the country. Los elefantes están muy presentes en la his- toria y cultura de Camboya. Están representados en numerosas tallas de piedra en todo Angkor. Los habitantes de Ratanakiri han domesticado y tra- bajado con ellos desde los principios de la civili- zación. En la actualidad están en grave peligro de extinción, no solo en el reino, sino en muchas par- tes del planeta. Desde hace 10 años, el Reino de Camboya ha trabajado de la mano con otras organizaciones para fomentar un turismo responsable que propi- cie la convivencia con los elefantes, sin que esto implique daño alguno a este grandioso animal. Han concientizado a las propias comunidades y etnias para que reconozcan la ventaja de relacionarse con ellos de una forma amigable, y sobre todo, de la importancia de la conservación de sus espa- cios naturales. En el país se han creado diferentes áreas y programas de conservación. “Salva a los elefantes, luego salva al bosque, y luego te salvas”.
