It is the first mid size of the Hummer dynasty and it is now available in Mexico. The first years of the Hummer H2 are still fresh on our minds: it was the favorite of celebrities and environmentalists, its most fervent detractors —because “its gasoline consumption was an insult to the ecology”— left symbolic traffic tickets on its windshield as a sign of protest.
Even its size was thought to provoke aggressiveness and violence.
Even so, those who were so offended may be thinking of buying a Hummer H3. It is the Hummer’s younger brother and, in this case, it means just that —a smaller version, that continues to look like it and has excellent all-terrain capacities.
It comes with a five cylinder, in-line Vortech engine and its 3.5 liter displacement gives 220 HP.
But, there is no doubt that, when it comes to a Hummer, the most important thing is its 225 pound/feet torque, perfect for facing difficult terrain without problems.
It is the first of the family to offer the option of choosing between 5-speed standard shift or 4-speed automatic shift.
Its all terrain capacity will surely place it at the top of its class. Its wading ability is of up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) of water and it can climb vertical obstacles of up to 40 centimeters (16 inches). As with all Hummers, its attack and exit angles of 40 and 37 degrees, respectively, are noteworthy. In other words, the H3 can be driven directly towards a hole and can get out of it without damaging its front or rear.
Thanks to its new dimensions, the H3 can be driven in city traffic without causing problems or irritating people. Compared with the H2, the H3 is more maneuverable, a quality that the owners of the bigger Hummers will envy: its turning radius is smaller. Besides, with the H3 finding a place to park is no problem at all.
