Historia
Al principio era sólo una idea. Una idea que surge del
amor a la tranquilidad de las aguas azules, al calor,
la brisa y el pintoresco paisaje de las islas vírgenes
británicas. Fue la magnífica vista de todos lo tipos de
yates que entraban por el canal de Sir Francis Drake,
que provocó la realización de esta idea.
En 1972, marineros locales sintieron que era mo-
mento de organizar una gran regatta. Como miembros
de la Asociación de Turismo y Hotelería de la Islas Vír-
genes Británicas; Peter Haycraft y Albie Stewart, entre
otros, usaron su influencia para establecer la primera
regatta de primavera. Más de 20 botes, incluyendo
los squibs, compitieron en la primera Regatta.
Ganó el yate Nutmeg y su capital Alex Forbes del Rei-
no Unido.
Regata 2010
La Isla Tortola fue el centro de la Regata de primavera
y Festival de Navegación en las Islas Vírgenes Británicas.
Al llegar a la Marina Nanny Cay Resort, donde cada año
se desarrolla esta celebración náutica, se sentía el
ambiente de competencia y festejo. Desde ahí
salieron los veleros a competir y regresaban a celebrar
con todo lo que los patrocinadores tenían preparado.
Se destacó el velero “JACOMINA” de B.V.I. Yacht
Charters de Arjan Stoof y toda su tripulación, por su
belleza, rapidez, elegancia. Fue uno de los ganadores de
la Regatta. También se renta para otras competencias
Se reunieron J24 y una flota impresionante de veleros
de diferentes categorías, fue impresionante ver a
todos juntos en el mismo océano. Varios grupos de
muchas partes del mundo se reunieron para el
Festival Internacional de Primavera de Regatta 2010,
que se realiza anualmente desde hace 39 años.
History
At the beginning it was just an idea. An idea sparked
by a love of the tranquil blue waters of the Virgin
Islands, the warm steady trade winds and the
picturesque scenery of the islands. It was a mag-
nificent sight of yachts of all types as they sliced
through the waters of the Sir Francis Drake Channel
that sparked the idea.
In 1972, local sailors felt it was the right time to
organize a major regatta. As members of the then
BVI Hotel and Tourist Association, Peter Haycraft,
Albie Stewart and others, used their influence to
establish the first BVI Spring Regatta. Over 20 boats,
including Squibs, competed in the first regatta
which was won by the yacht Nutmeg skippered by
Alex Forbes of the United Kingdom.
Regatta 2010
Tortola Island was the center of the BVI Spring Re-
gatta and Sailing Festival. When we arrive to Marina
Nanny Cay Resort, where every year this race takes
place, we could feel the atmosphere of competition
and feast. From that place, every day, the boats start
the competition and return to celebrate the victory
with all the things the sponsor prepared for them.
One of the greatest boats, because of his beauty,
speed and elegancy and also was one of the winners
was the “JACOMINA” of BVI Yachts Charter of Arjan
toof. These boats it can be rented for another
competition:
In the event, there was J24 and an impressive
swifts of different categories. It was really amaz-
ing to watch them all at the same time in the same
ocean. Many groups of all over the world came for
this International Spring Regatta 2010, celebrated
in 1972 (39 years).
