·amura· 40 Flota • Fleet For decades, the superyacht industry has been synonymous with extreme luxury, impeccable design, and cutting-edge technical performance. Today, that same sector faces an inevitable question: how can it evolve without compromising the environment that makes it possible? Breakthrough, the latest and most ambitious project by Feadship, offers an answer that is as compelling as it is visionary. After five years of development, Breakthrough emerged from a clear directive by her owners: to integrate genuine ecological technology—not symbolic gestures. The solution proposed by Feadship proved both bold and complex: a multifaceted, diesel-free approach capable of navigating between ports and powering all onboard systems and amenities through emission-free energy generated from green hydrogen. The primary technical challenge was formidable. Storing compressed liquid hydrogen at -423.4°F below deck within a luxury superyacht required a fundamental rethinking of safety protocols, naval engineering standards, and structural design. The commitment, however, was fully shared by the owner, who recognized that transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy solutions is not merely desirable, but imperative. Breakthrough is not an experiment—it is a statement of intent. Feadship’s largest yacht to date Measuring 387 ft in overall length, the yacht was launched at Feadship’s facilities in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Constructed in steel and aluminum, it is the largest yacht ever built by the Dutch shipyard and, notably, the world’s first superyacht powered by a hydrogen fuel-cell system—an engineering milestone that redefines the concept of offshore propulsion. Both exterior and interior design were entrusted to the British studio RWD, which conceived a contemporary, refined, and highly functional aesthetic aligned with the yacht’s technological DNA. The project reflects Feadship’s public commitment to developing net-zero-emission yachts by 2030, setting a new benchmark for the industry at large. The naval architecture is equally impressive. Breakthrough features five decks above the waterline and two below, with the owner’s deck positioned 121 ft above sea level. It also boasts the greatest number of hull openings ever incorporated into a Feadship: 14 sliding balconies that remain completely concealed when closed, preserving the purity of its lines and overall design integrity. The owner’s suite is, quite literally, a private apartment at sea. It comprises two staterooms, two full bathrooms with independent dressing areas, a private gym, pantry, two offices—each with its own fireplace—and an expansive lounge offering uninterrupted ocean views. Conceived for extended stays, the space ensures that comfort is not compromised by technology, but rather enhanced through it.
