EXPANDIENDO LOS LÍMITES DEL MUNDO CONOCIDO El lenguaje de todos los clanes vikingos era el nórdico antiguo, una len- gua de la familia germánica. Adoraban a las mismas deidades, llevaban a cabo ritos semejantes y percibían la vida y la muerte tal como era conce- bida y contada en la mitología nórdica o escandinava. Se caracterizaron por ser grandes navegantes, pues poseían una formidable sabiduría en cuanto a tradiciones navales; lo que les permitió desarrollar el drakar y el sneakar , barcos vikingos que tenían diversas funciones. Eran capaces de navegar grandes distancias y desafiar los mares del mundo, ayudados por su conocimiento de la astronomía, el aprovechamiento de las corrientes oceánicas, la fuerza de los vientos e incluso el uso de relojes de sol y de la piedra solar –una forma natural de cristal de calcita que les permitía seguir la ubicación del sol aun en los días invernales y de tormentas.
