La iniciativa de crear una copa propia del conti-
nente, surge cuando se detecta la falta de una com-
petencia a la altura de las condiciones y aptitudes de
los jugadores de esta región en el ámbito golfístico;
adicionalmente, se debía realizar un esfuerzo por
consagrar el talento americano a través de un espíritu
emprendedor y con el apoyo de la PGA Tour, gran pre-
cursor de este deporte a nivel mundial, especialmente
enAmérica. Fue así comoen2014se celebró laprimera
ediciónde BridgestoneAmerica’s Golf Cup en2014, in-
tegrada al calendario PGA Tour Latinoamérica.
Esa primera edición, en la que repartió una
bolsa de 600,000 dólares (dinero que no fue válido
para la Orden de Mérito del circuito), se jugó bajo
el formato fourball (tal como se hace en la Ryder
Cup) a lo largo de 72 hoyos, en una de las mejores
canchas de golf a nivel mundia: El Olivos Golf Club
de Argentina. El trofeo de ese primer campeonato
de América se lo llevaron Rafael Echenique y Emi-
lio Domínguez, pareja argentina que, por un golpe
de diferencia, dejó en segundo lugar al combinado
integrado por Daniel Mazziotta y Robert Rohanna,
de Estados Unidos.

The initiative to create a cup belonging to the conti-
nent originates when it was noted the lack of a com-
petition worthy of the conditions and aptitudes of
the players in the golf circuit of this region; more-
over, effortsmust bemade to have the American tal-
ent dedicated through entrepreneurial spirit, with
the support of the PGA Tour, great precursor of this
sport worldwide, specially in the American Conti-
nent. This was how, in 2014, the first edition of the
Bridgestone America’s Golf Cup was linked to the
PGA Tour Latin America calendar.
In that first edition, in which a $600,000.00
dollar prize was distributed (money that was
not valid for the circuit’s Order of Merit), it was
played under the four-ball format (as done in the
Ryder Cup) along 72 holes, in one of the best golf
courses in the world: the Olivos Golf Club in Ar-
gentina. The trophy of this first championship
was won by Rafael Echenique and Emilio Domin-
guez, Argentinean couple that, by a difference
of one stroke, left the second place for Daniel
Mazziotta and Robert Rohanna’s team from the
United States.
