·amura· 118 los conquistadores • the conquerors Como parte de las exposiciones en curso en el Museo de Arte Moderno (MoMA) se encuentran dos salas con una serie de pinturas y esculturas que abarcan desde finales del siglo XIX hasta los años 80 del siglo XX. La colección también cuenta con una tercera sección que cubre desde las dos últimas décadas del siglo XX hasta la actualidad. El término Arte Moderno, aunque pueda parecer amplio, está bien definido en lo que es y lo que repercute consigo mismo. Este período/estilo incluye obras de arte producidas durante el período que se extiende aproximadamente desde 1860 hasta la década de 1970, y denota la moda y la filosofía del arte que se produce durante esa época. Cubriendo un siglo sólo parece lógico que el arte moderno es más una declaración, una filosofía, que sólo unmovimiento. El término se asocia generalmente con el arte en el que las tradiciones del pasado se han echado a un lado en un espíritu de experimentación. Los artistas modernos experimentaron con nuevas formas de ver y con nuevas ideas sobre la naturaleza de los materiales y funciones del arte. La tendencia mayor en el artista moderno es hacia la abstracción. En la época actual (a partir de 1980 - principios del siglo XXI), los artistas de los últimos años reorientan su producción a partir del arte moderno y hacia el arte contemporáneo, a menudo llaman a este tipo de producciones: postmodernas. As part or the ongoing exhibitions at TheMuseumof Modern Art (MoMA) we can find two rooms with a series of paintings and sculptures that cover from the late XIXth Century until the 80´ s of the XXth Century. The collection also has a third room that cover from the las two decades of the XXth Century until today. The termModern Art, althoughmay seembroad, it is well defined in what belongs and what is a repercution of itself. This period/style includes artistic works produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the trends and philosophy of the art produced during that era. Covering a century it only seems logic that Modern Art is more a statement, a philosophy than just a movement. The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. The mayor tendency in the modern artist tends towards the abstraction. In the current years (from 1980- begining of the XXIst Century), recent artists redirect their production from Modern Art to Contemporary Art, often calling this productions as part of the Postmodern Art. 1 1.
