·amura· 104 Gorilas en la Niebla Han pasado más de 50 años, desde que una intrépida y especial mujer, decidió irse a la selva a vivir entre los Gorilas de Montaña para estudiarlos, defenderlos y salvaguardar su hábitat. Su decisión, puso en relieve una situación precaria. La zoóloga Dian Fossey (1932-1985) junto a George Schaller, fueron quienes en primer lugar estudiaron a estos animales en su ambiente (http:// gorillafund.org/ ). Ella escribió el libro “Gorilas en la Niebla”, a la vez biográfico y científico. Su existen- cia fue un desafío consciente, que cuestionó para siempre la validez de la pretensión humana de una supremacía sobre la naturaleza y el reino animal. Su estrecha relación con los Gorilas fue lleva- da a la pantalla grande, donde fue interpretada por SigourneyWeaver. La película, fue rodada en los escenarios naturales del Parque Nacional de los Volcanes, en Ruanda, donde Dian Fossey es descrita en el epitafio de su tumba como “Nyirama- chabelli”, en lengua kinyarwanda: “la mujer que vive sola en la montaña o la mujer que supo adaptarse al bosque”. Dian Fossey dio su propia vida por los gorilas. La fundación que lleva su nombre continúa su legado. Gorillas in the Mist It has been more than 50 years since a fearless and special woman decided to head to the jungle to live among the Mountain Gorillas to study them, defend them and protect their habitat. Her deci- sion put a precarious situation on the spotlight. She wrote the book Gorillas in the Mist, both biographical and scientific. It pro- vided a conscious challenge, which questioned forever the validity of the human claim of supre- macy over nature and the animal kingdom. Her close relationship with the Gorillas was taken to the big screen, where she was portrayed by Sigourney Weaver. The film was shot in the natural settings of the Volcanoes National Park, in Rwanda, where Dian Fossey is described in the epitaph of her grave as “Nyiramachabelli”, in the Kinyarwanda language: “the woman who lives alone in the mountains, or woman who knew how to adapt to the forest”.
