The class “C” vessels stood out for their excellent
and fast performance with
Super Gnat
(USA) taking
first place followed by
Velocity
(Mexico) with
Bandido
(Mexico) arising third.
“We want events such as these to continue to be
promoters of new nautical developments and new sail-
ing talent in Mexico, which without a doubt have a
great future and take on greater relevance everyday in
our country because we have the best coasts, weather
and winds for sailing,” he added.
On concluding the eighth regatta, all the vessels
returned to their ports of origin to await MEXORC 2010.
The final trophy was taken by the category “A” vessel
Akela,
from the United Status, while overall second
place went to
Morpheus
(USA) followed by the Mexican
yacht
Bandido
in third place.
“With the success of MEXORC 2008, we hope that
the interest and support for sailing will continue to
grow because Mexico continues to demonstrate its
great sailing talent and weather conditions that allow
the sport to be enjoyed for most of the year at a very
high level”, commented the Chairman of the Mexican
Sailing Foundation, Ralph Nelles.
The MEXORC was held from March 1-8 with wind-
ward-leeward winds and during the competition,
points were accumulated to take away the MEXORC
2008 cup, supported by important private companies
such as Corona, Ixe, Mexicana, Grupo Marival, Paradise
Village, Bacardi, as well as the Tourist Development
Board (FONATUR), the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) and
the Government of the State of Nayarit.
Las embarcaciones clase “C” destacaron por su exce-
lente y veloz desempeño, llegando en primer lugar
Super
Gnat
(EUA), seguida de
Velocity
(México) y en tercer lugar
Bandido
(México).
“Queremos que eventos como éste sigan siendo pro-
motores de nuevos desarrollos náuticos y de nuevos talen-
tos del deporte de la vela en México, que sin duda tienen
gran futuro y comienzan a tomar mayor relevancia día a día
en nuestro país, al contar con lo mejor en las costas, clima y
vientos para la práctica de este deporte,” añadió.
Concluida la regata número ocho todas las embarca-
ciones regresaron a sus puertos de origen para esperar su
participación para el MEXORC 2010. El trofeo final se lo
llevó la embarcación de la categoría “A”,
Akela,
de origen
estadounidense, dejando en el segundo sitio de la gene-
ral a
Morpheus
(EUA) y en el tercer puesto a la embarca-
ción con bandera mexicana,
Bandido
.
“Con el éxito del MEXORC 2008 esperamos que el
interés y los apoyos para el deporte de la vela sigan cre-
ciendo, ya que el país sigue demostrando que tiene gran-
des talentos dentro de este deporte y grandes
condiciones que propician que se pueda practicar durante
gran parte del año y a muy alto nivel”, como lo dijo el pre-
sidente de la Federación Mexicana de Vela, Ralph Nelles.
El MEXORC se llevó a cabo del 1 al 8 de marzo con
recorridos de barlovento-sotaventos, y durante la com-
petencia se acumularon puntos para llevarse la copa
MEXORC 2008, apoyada por importantes empresas priva-
das, como Corona, Ixe, Mexicana, Grupo Marival, Paradise
Village, Bacardí, así como FONATUR, SECTUR y el
Gobierno del Estado de Nayarit.
