Una de sus innovaciones consiste en haber sido construido sin columnas ni puntales. Pensado para maravillar, sus arquitectos usaron un estilo que mezcla influencias persas, hindúes, musulmanas, elementos turcos y de occidente. Además, los arquitectos se las ingeniaron para lograr efectos ópticos, perdurables en cada visitante: Cenefas, minaretes, cúpulas, caligrafías, portales, arcadas y paneles decorativos; calados en mármol, relieves en piedras, entre otros detalles de gran belleza, con el objetivo de expresar perpetuamente un amor eterno.
