Inaugurates its First Golf Course
Playa Mujeres, the detonator of high-end tourism development in the Mexican Caribbean, inaugurated the first of two golf courses located in this spectacular, luxurious complex, on May 31.
With an investment of 14 million dollars, the 18-hole, 7,260 yard, par 72 course was inaugurated with the presence of Fernando Shütte, the General Director of the development, and Greg Norman, designer of the course and winner of 91 international titles.
During the event, Fernando Shütte said, “this is the moment in which Mexico’s tourism industry enters the big leagues”. He considered that the country is ready to offer high-end tourism, which is already available in other parts of the world, and that, with developments like Playa Mujeres, Mexico’s prestige increases.
Greg Norman said that he took special care in respecting the natural, harmonious beauty of the spot. “Not only is the course stunning but it is also a challenge for lovers of golf since its design and characteristics, like the winds of the area, oblige even the most seasoned players to concentrate and be very precise”. He added that playing on this course is an experience that will allow golfers to experience a combination of adrenaline and peace and feel out of this world.
Troon Golf, of great international prestige, will manage the course.
Playa Mujeres is located 7 km (4.3 mi) north of Cancun. The development is flanked by 3.7 km (2.2 mi) of beaches and 4 km (2.4 mi) face Chacmochuc lagoon. It is designed to become one of the Mexican Caribbean’s most exclusive tourism center.
Besides the golf courses, the complex will also have a marina for 180 boats with the capacity to receive yachts of up to 200 feet.
