To the northeast, inside the state of Baja California, resides the majestic Bay of Loreto, a privileged destination, harboring natural, untouched beauties that make of this place an ideal spot to relax and repose. Natural attractions, sport activities, archeological sightings and local cultural events form part of the ample offers that Loreto provides.

For many years now, Loreto has positioned itself as one of the most important tourism sites in Mexico. Since it’s foundation, in 1697, the town had not been seen a the center of economic transcendence that it is today.

Its transformation began in 1973, when the construction of a highway that connects the Baja California Peninsula from north to south was completed, which in turn made transit possible between Mexico and the United States, as well as the connection of the Peninsula with the national highway grid. In 1974, the Loreto International Airport began to operate, and with that, the Bay took its first steps towards a connection with the rest of the world.

Flora and fauna inside Loreto is abundant and diverse, which translates into invaluable richness, one that inspires awe and admiration. One example is the Bay of Loreto National Park, a Mexican natural reserve. Furthermore, on the Magdalene Bay, one can view the breathtaking birth of eight species of whales. The Biosphere Reserve “El Vizcaíno” provides travelers with the opportunity to observe the endemic flora and fauna of the region.

Loreto is a destination that highly attracts lovers of underwater activities. Diving can be undertaken at the Coronado Island, which coasts are populated by marine life, as well as in Isla del Carmen, where multicolored fishes, underwater mounts and caves prevail. Both are home to beautiful coral reefs.

Sport fishing is confined to the Juncalito and Marino Park, where species such as sardines, sailfish, goldfish, and others abound.

For those who enjoy golfing, the Loreto-Napoló Golf Course offers a professional and modern 18-hold course, located in the tourism area of the same name. One can also find there magnificent installations to play tennis, which are considered some of the best in the country.

Apart from the natural beauty and the excellent services, Loreto features attractive archeological sites. Inside the following: “Cuevas Pints, Cuevas La Pintada, and Sierra de San Francisco” are found paintings that depict the artistic manifestations of the past, which in some cases, as is in the case of “Sierra de San Francisco”, are close to three-thousand years old. Furthermore, it’s possible to admire ancient structures pertaining to The Missions, as is the San Javier Mission, and the Mission of Our Lady of Loreto, which reveal the religious past of the region.
