The Amura team: a step away from qualifying
EThe AMURA team competed well with a lot of drive during the event held last November 3, 4 and 5 and obtained outstanding results since of the eight regattas held, the team obtained good results in 3 by winning first, second and fifth place.
With these results the AMURA team reached fourth place out of 10 and qualified for the world J- 24 championship, with just one event to go. The 39 boats taking part made the competition very intense because they competed well trying to quantify for the world championship.
Everything will be decided on December 1, 2 and 3, also in Puerto Vallarta, where the J-24 will set sail from Vallarta Yacht Club to race for the 10 spaces available to represent Mexico in the next World Championship to be held in the waters of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, on March 1-7, 2007. We must reiterate that the AMURA team, with just the December event to go, is in fourth place of the 10 qualifying places.
Team captain Manuel Villarreal commented on their qualifying strategy within the Mexican Team: “We will be training for several days before the com- petition in order to get a feel of the regatta course conditions, such as the direction and the turn of the wind, currents, wave movements and tides. The purpose this training is to instill a feeling of security and trust within the team so that when the time comes, we all perform to the maximum, which can only be achieved if every team member gives his best and is convinced that we can win”.
The AMURA has been taking part in the J-24 class circuit regattas throughout the year. Many hours of hard work and above all a high level of commitment and dedication have made it one of the favorite can- didates to qualify for the Mexican Team
Knowing all the teams, Villarreal confirmed that no one is going to give up and that all the boats will struggle hard to make it onto the Mexican Team. He also commented that the climatic conditions of the regatta course are a great unknown factor for this year’s season, which may produce either very light will very intense winds, which will greatly changes the strategy and the way of sailing the boat.
