The J24 last has become a competitive and high-level springboard for the launching of professional sailboat cups and competitions throughout the world. The next world championship in this class will be held in the beautiful port of Acapulco, a magnificent destination chosen to host the competitions that will begin in March 2007.
Mexico has always excelled in yachting sports. The sponsors that will be present at this event include distinguished and recognized brands, among them Amura Yachts & Lifestyle.
In the case of Mexico, the elimination rounds to be worthy representatives of our country and occupy one of the 15 places held by the Mexican Republic in this championship began in Acapulco on February 11 and will continue throughout 2006.
Acapulco Yacht Club was the headquarters of the initial events leading up to the world championship. There, the first eliminating rounds were held, in which the presence of younger crews and Olympic-experienced crews stood out. The second series in order to select the best Mexican yachts towards the height of the world championship took place on February 24 and 25, emphasizing the participation of 28 yachts and 150 crews.
During the elimination rounds, there was an atmosphere of companionship and gentlemanliness between the yachts, although this did not take anything away from the fierce competition. One could appreciate the crews working on the last details and adjustments necessary to be able to perform well in a competition of a level such as this.
The participation of the Amura team within the framework of these competitions must be appreciated, since our team was not only present, but has become a competitive participant achieving very good results. For example, good positions were achieved in one of the regattas by Hakunamatata Amura and Manuel Villareal, achieving a well-deserved fourth position.
