One of three new Sanlorenzo models, unveiled during the annual meeting at Yacht Club de Monaco in Monaco last September, was the splendid SL118 superyacht. Motor yacht SL118 belongs to the planing hull motoryacht range – a strong point of this prestigious Italian builder for more than three decades.
The flagship of this fleet is luxury yacht SL 108, almost 35 meters, followed, three years ago, by SL 104 (an example can be motor yacht Indigo), nearly 33 meters, the number one of the new course of the range, enriched by more modern marks, but respectful of the unmistakable Sanlorenzo style.
In the outlook of an extended renovation of this range the yard felt the requirement, also from customers, of a new flagship, of a larger size with more spaces and more advanced solutions.
This is the origin of SL 118, purest Sanlorenzo SL line, interpreted in a bigger way and strengthened with avant-garde features. The yacht is a semi-wide body in the front part, but with the volumes exceptionally well integrated in the profile of the boat thanks to the windows shaping and superstructure, that exalts the family feeling connoting the range.
On the new flagship one can find some elements already encountered on SL 104, as the large salon windows, the metal grey painted pillars, the transparent handrail of the flying bridge to always allow a pleasant view from the boat top, the transom with the teak hand rail and the steel frieze.
The more than 36 meters Loa combined with the semi-wide body configuration allow unusual spaces, as the well organized sunbathing area in front or the folding terraces on the sides of the owner suite and the salon amid ship, as on the famous and multi awarded 40 Alloy (an example is motor yacht 111).
The style of the yacht is expressing an extended modernity and a spread innovation through out all the boat. The helm station for instance, placed on the half deck, is a concentrate of ergonomic advanced solutions with the four control system screens each individually standing, and the navigator corner as on a commercial aircraft.
The interior layout and decoration is expressing even more freely, a limitless conception of the interior space full of proposals and charm. A wide use of double glazing as bulkheads on the lower deck permits to separate the guest cabins leaving the light flowing through the space and consenting a total view of the full beam. The sound proofing is guaranteed and privacy is obtained simply lowering the curtains each cabin has.
A skilful and courageous lighting system hidden over the canvas roofs can softly spread the light from the spots that remain invisible when not in use during the day.
Light colors, straight lines, resin floors, sanded wood on the bulkheads on the main deck give a relaxing atmosphere to the space. All the windows in the salon are opening and combined with he folding terraces give to the living area a positive and natural relation interior/exterior to better an totally enjoy the seascape.
The stair case connecting the main deck to the flying bridge is in glass and the stair has suspended steps, as more than once applied on the 40 Alloy.
To ensure low power consumption much attention has been paid to the weight. All fiberglass products are in fact constructed by the infusion process. The interior cells cabins housing modules are supported by aluminum frames floating ensuring also an excellent sound insulation and anti-vibration. The flagship of Sanlorenzo is also prepared for the installation of a plant for the biological treatment of all waters on board. The system brings the boat into compliance with the most restrictive and recent legislation on environmental pollution.
The transom door opens on a wide garage becoming a large beach club. In the engine room two Mtus with 1,939 kW (2,600 HP) push SL 118 up to 28 knots max speed, with a cruising speed of 24 knots.
