A magnificient sight
Iam still amazed by the noiseless yet impressive force and elegance of this magnificent vessel, as its 2,300 plus square feet of canvas tied to a ninety foot mast pull it forward at speeds seldom seen on sailing yachts this size. The beauty of seeing her catch the wind and leap forward as her ultra-modern hull design slices through the water is a feeling we all must experience at least once in a lifetime.
A proud example of Yankee ingenuity, this pleasing 72 footer’s looks do not upstage her spectacular performance. Teams of the most experienced craftsmen and innovative nautical engineers, out of the Alden shipyards in Providence, Rhode Island, have developed and built a truly exceptional sailing yacht.
Rarely has the center cockpit solution been resolved so well – there is a working cockpit aft that includes the helm station with state-of-the-art navigational instrument and control panels that allow for smooth sailing without a huge crew. Amidships there is a large center cockpit with a spacious lounge that includes a great U-shaped settee and a fold-down dining table for relaxing, enjoying an afternoon cocktail, or sharing a delicious meal alfresco. In spite of her two cockpits, her profile remains sleek, uninterrupted and beautiful.
Whether you are entertaining family and friends, or racing towards the finish line, the Alden 72 is spacious, elegant, and functional. As we mentioned before, she features a full-size working cockpit aft, and a luxurious "lounging" cockpit center. Down below, the owner's ample stateroom with seating area, entertainment center and private head, spans the width of the boat, aft. Crew's quarters and dayhead are amidships, as is the fully equipped galley, dining room, which seats eight, and a comfortable, elegant living room for evening reunions. Forward, additional accommodations are provided in two large guest suites, each with private head and plenty of closet space.
The hull of the Alden 72 is built entirely of epoxy resins and E-glass/Kevlar laminates, then vacuum bagged and post thermal cured. Main structural bulkheads are also composite. Like other Alden Yachts sailboats, the 72 is built to the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Guide for Building and Classing Offshore Racing Yachts. Perhaps the main feature, which contributes to her excellent performance, is the precision design of her keel that controls her listing without affecting her speed.
There is simply no mistaking the sheer power and grace of the magnificent custom Alden Yachts 72. The boat's sweeping, sheer, long profile determines her true New England lineage, and promises uncompromised sailing performance in safety and in comfort
