Founded in 1534 by Miguel de Estete and well fortified to prevent assault from pirates, it was the provisional capital of Peru during its independence. Trujillo encloses the latent history of in a special way. The Jesuit church, Trujillo Cathedral, and the monastery of El Carmen are a valuable conjunction of architectural and artistic colonial art. There are also the ruins of the pre-Incan city of Chanchan and the archaeological discovery: Lady of Cao.
