Ascend, the latest business jet developed by Cessna Citation, was presented at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) 2023 in Switzerland

Ascend introduces a new luxurious cabin to the mid-size business jet market, featuring amenities for the passengers, improved performance, and increased range and fuel efficiency. In its development, the requests of customers, particularly those with Citation 560XL aircrafts, were taken into account.

The outcome is the Ascend, which can be used for either charter or corporate flights. The main cabin can accommodate up to 12 passengers or more luggage, which is facilitated by the seat back design capable of bearing and securing heavy objects without causing damage, due to the high-strength material of the covers.

 

 

The cabin is the quietest in its category, comparable to that of mid-size business jets, due to its superior acoustics when compared to light jets. With enhanced sound dampening, the cabin offers an environment equivalent to the low noise levels of driving a car on the road, enabling passengers to converse, work, or relax in a distraction-free setting usually found in larger aircraft.

The aircraft is currently under development and is expected to be operational by 2025.

Moreover, it is possible to include Bongiovi Acoustic Labs surround sound for an enhanced audio experience that enables you to enjoy your favorite music or programs to the fullest.

The aircraft boasts large windows, 15% larger than those of a typical jet. This allows natural light to pass through and, if required, the curtains can be darkened through wireless control. An alternative option is to install lights in the window rings that brighten the cabin and enhance the on-board ambiance.

 

 

Unrestricted movement

The flat floor provides passengers with unrestricted movement and allows them to stretch their legs during the flight. The seats can be fully rotated and feature an innovative one-button release function for electric control of different positions. Cushion firmness can be customized with the option of lumbar support, as well as ergonomic designs and quilted patterns.

Another attractive feature is the side-facing settee. It is not just a pair of comfortable seats; it can also be transformed into an additional cargo stowage area which is accessible during the flight. The folding seatbacks feature an unbreakable plastic surface that prevents items from moving during taxi, takeoff, and landing, ensuring your comfort in the air.

You can customize the cabin interior with a choice of luxurious and sustainable carpets and materials, with expert advice from Cessna. The galley features ample space, making it ideal for preparing food and beverages, and offers the option of a marble countertop.

Each seat is equipped with three universal power outlets, 19 standard USB ports, and wireless charging for smartphones. The Clairity Cabin Management System enables you to adjust cabin temperature, lighting, window shades, and entertainment system for a comfortable ride. You can control the system through a smartphone app.

 

 

Intelligent Power

Ascend is powered by a pair of state-of-the-art Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, offering the highest fuel efficiency, range, and thrust, which positions it as a high-performance aircraft. The airframe requires maintenance every 18 months or 800 flight hours, while engine overhauls are necessary every 6,000 flight hours. Moreover, the aircraft has the capability to run on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The aircraft's range is 1,900 nm when traveling with four passengers, while the anticipated maximum range is 2,100 nm. The aircraft is designed to reach an altitude of 45,000 ft. quickly with a planned cruising speed of 441 knots.

The engines incorporate new materials and technologies such as a more efficient high-pressure compressor, an improved single-stage high-pressure turbine module, and an improved exhaust mixer. In addition, the PW545D engines are equipped with full authority digital engine control (FADEC), which enables automatic throttling, ensuring they operate at maximum efficiency.

Thanks to the design improvements, the aircraft offers a greater combination of payload and fuel-carrying capability while maintaining the ability for takeoff and short runway access. With a cruising speed of four passengers aboard, the aircraft allows for direct travel from Mexico City to destinations in Canada, the United States and Central America.

The cockpit is equipped with Garmin G5000 avionics featuring the latest software and hardware. Automatic throttles are included that lower the pilot's workload, resulting in smoother operations and a better in-flight experience.

The pilot has access to three ultra-high-resolution 14-inch displays featuring split-screen capability. Synthetic vision technology is included for obstacle rendering, such as mountains. Satellite voice and data transceivers allow for satellite calls. Additionally, there is a second Iridium and CPDLC data radio available (optionally) to aid customers in securing more direct routes between North America and Europe.
