For the second year in a row, La Europea celebrated with great success during the months of August and September, the second edition of the Mezcal Fair. This second edition is the result of its success last year in the momentum of a very important category for Mexico today.

 The word mezcal comes from the Nahuat lenguaje: metl or meztl (maguey) and Ixcalli ( cook ), which literally means “ cooked maguey”. There are over 100 varieties of maguey or agave that is used for the preparation of this product, Tobalá or sprat.

One of the key points dedicated to this important category was the education about this ancient and authentic Mexican beverage that represents the effort and dedication passed from generation to generation in different regions throughout the country.

 It involved the participation of 56 brands committed to maintaining tradition and care for the environment, as well as hard working communities, but above all, passion. Remember that this is a 100% Mexican drink.

 

 

The happening: tastings at more than 45 branches throughout the country of La Europea, large tastings in the most important points of Mexico: Guadalajara , Queretaro , Cancun , Playa del Carmen , Merida and Mexico City ; pairing dinners and events aimed at creating a conscious of responsible consumption of mezcal in the  Mexico of today.

Mezcal is an appellation of origin covered by the states of Durango , Guerrero , Guanajuato , San Luis Potosi , Tamaulipas , Zacatecas and Oaxaca, particularly the latter state is called “The region of mezcal”.

 

Characteristic Aspects of Mezcal

 

  • Alcohol: between 38 and 50 % Alc . Vol.
  • Young: clean and bright, floral and citrus notes, on the palate, nutty, slightly sweet citrus with ripe fruit.
  • Reposado: light amber, hints of spice, chocolate, caramel and sweet aroma of citrus and wood, in the mouth, soft.
  • Añejo: amber bright, complex aromas with hints of smoke, chocolate, caramel and wood, pleasant and persistent on the palate.
