Declared a Fiesta of Tourism interest

Toledo follows the tradition of the Holy Week with such brilliance that its celebration is already a National Tourist Interest. Its devotion is expressed with art of great penitential severity and the solemn processions give the opportunity to visit the many convents there are in Toledo...

The Holy Week celebration is something worthy to take advantage and explore this beautiful city. The scenic beauty is to the celebration that runs from the previous Friday “Viernes de Dolores” trough Holy Thursday and Holy Friday.

At eleven o’clock in the night of Friday March 22nd. The rituals begin. On Palm Sunday the procession enters the Cathedral by the Clock Gate. Holy Monday’s procession is accompanied by Gregorian chants sang by monks. The Holy Wednesday procession ends with the Miserere sung in the convent church of Santo Domingo el Real. The night of Thursday to Friday, there are two processions starting at the Cathedral, at nine o’clock the first and the second at midnight.

At one o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the procession of the “Cristo de la Buena Muerte” starts from the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. The Easter Vigil takes place in all churches and everyone waits for midnight. Easter Sunday starts with the double procession of the Santisima Virgen de la Alegria (Our Lady of Joy) and the Risen Jesus. Both of the images meet, and at that time, the veil of mourning is taken off Our Lady of Joy and attendees celebrate with the classic “chocolate con churros” in front of the parish of San Andres.
