Jack Nicklaus, the “Golden Bear”, is about to inaugurate one of his dens in Sonora: the Mayan Resorts Puerto Peñasco Golf Course, a development located between the desert and the Sea of Cortez. 

Three golf courses are being built in this oasis. The first one, an 18-hole, par 72 designed by Jack Nicklaus & Jack Nicklaus II, is under construction and will be named The Peninsula. Its landscape is of desert vegetation and exceptional views of the sea and the estuary.
On land where everyone else only saw a desert, the “Golden Bear” found the perfect spot to create a scene that benefited from the naturally uneven terrain and designed a course that will be one of the world’s 20 best courses, both for its design as for its playability by golfers of all levels.

 

All this is just a taste of what this destination will offer to those who wish to practice this trendy sport because Mayan Resorts will open the Jack Nicklaus Golf Academy, where enthusiasts will be able to improve their technique while on vacation.

 

A Course Built From Nothing
The golf course is less than 100 km (62 miles) from the Mexico-U.S. border and around a four-hour drive from the Phoenix International Airport in Arizona or from the Mexicali Airport in Baja California.
In addition to the course, the club will feature a driving range, putting green, Pro shop and restaurant-bar. Its major attraction will be that players will be able to enjoy it 365 days of the year since the average temperature is 38 ° F (100 ° F), in the summer, and 15° C (59° F) in the winter.
