Whose name is that of Czar
Sis name evokes that of a Czar, but he does not consider himself one. Nicholas Edmiston tells us that he has been in the yacht brokerage business (charters, new builds, management) for over 35 years, and that he started the business because of his love of sailing.
“I am not certain about being a Czar, but I have been doing this for many years and I have had the good fortune of being very successful”, he stated in and interview with Amura Yachts & Lifestyle. Nicholas Edmiston, proprietor of the brokerage firm that bears his name, has been able to put together a multicultural team that operates in six cities: London, Monte Carlo, Golfe Juan, Antibes, Los Angeles and Mexico City.
What he first did for pleasure later became a way of life. Knowing how to take advantage of yachting developments, he observed how both the size of vessels as well as the potential at the high end of the market were increasing. “In the 21st century, ownership of a large yacht has become the number one status symbol. With a massive increase in spending power, the world’s richest can focus their fantasies on the largest and most sophisticated yachts”.
Buy or Charter
Nicholas Edmiston assures us that, for clients interested in buying a yacht, it is his knowledge and experience that can help them identify their own priorities, choose the exterior and interior design, get the best price, and assure them that the yacht is delivered on time and at the agreed price. As far as rentals are concerned, he says that they are backed by their expertise, knowledge of the best yachts, captains and crew, the ability to identify the right yacht and itinerary, attention to detail, and providing contact and support as needed during the entire length of the charter. “Without ignoring our clients’ lifestyle and itineraries, the most popular charter destinations are the Mediterranean, because of the interesting, civilized countries located there, filled with history and culture, and the safe sailing”.
The Edmiston Presence
The road is not an easy one, but Edmiston states that they are a recognized brand with international coverage. Their plans, he ads are to increase the brand’s presence in the United States, Latin America and China.
“The United States is one of the strongest markets for our largest yachts; our presence in Mexico will lead to further expansion into the Latin American market. We are already very active in Russia and the former Soviet Union. In the future, China is a must”.
Specifically for Mexico, Edmiston explains that their short-term plans involve developing charters, brokerage and new yacht sales. In the long term, we hope to be the dominant presence in Mexico for the largest yachts and to develop a charter business, both on its east and west coasts. Aren’t you tempted to sail to a hidden island in the Pacific, a fjord in Alaska? Privacy, more than anything! That is how Nicholas Edmiston concludes the interview.
