l crecimiento en la venta de yates abiertos duran-
te los últimos años ha sido bastante impresio-
nante, y entre los fabricantes europeos que
tardaron en diseñar y entrar en el mercado de este tipo
de yate está éste: Azimut. Sin embargo, con el esbelto y
poderoso 68S logran establecer su liderazgo en cuanto
a diseño y a performance.
¿Pero, qué pasa con su nuevo y controversial dise-
ño? Su casco de fibra de carbono pintado de blanco prís-
tino con rojo vivo y sus amplios parabrisas en forma de
lágrima a lo largo de la cabina de control de mando son
un sello de la marca Azimut. Ahora los diseñadores ita-
lianos del 68S han agregado nueve ventanas cuadradas
centradas a cada lado del casco. Al parecer rompen to-
das las reglas de diseño, no obstante su incorporación al
diseño funcional, tienen categoría, son prácticas y se ve
claramente a través de ellas. Aunque el área de cada
ventana es relativamente pequeña nos da un juego vi-
sual que sentimos que estamos viendo a través de un
gran ventanal. Son impresionantes. El dueño desde su
suite siente que es parte de la panorámica vista.
Este yate está repleto de detalles tecnológicos. La
plataforma hidroeléctrica de buceo del 68S se recorre al
agua, lo que permite un fácil acceso al utilitario y la co-
modidad de los deportes acuáticos. El toldo del yate es
rígido, pero no da esa impresión, ya que una gran parte
del techo se desliza para descubrir seis metros cuadra-
dos de cielo, un efecto logrado sencillamente dividiendo

keting of this yacht style. Nonetheless, with the advent
of this sleek 68-foot power package they have claimed
their leadership in design and performance.
But what about her new, controversial design? The
flashing pristine white and bright red carbon fiber
hull and its large tear drop windows on either side of
the cockpit are a trade mark of the Azimut design. But
now the Italian designers of the 68S have added nine
square windows to the center of the hull topside. It
would seem that it is breaking all design rules – but
it really works, it’s classy, and it’s practical – you can
actually see through them. While the area of each pane
is relatively small, arranging them in a tight three-by-
three rectangle actually fools the eye into seeing them
as one big picture window with a view. They make
quite an impression. Looking out from the owner’s
stateroom, you feel you’re part of the seascape.
When it comes to gadgets, this boat is loaded. The
68S’s clever electro-hydraulic bathing platform slides
down into the water, which allows for easy access to
the tender and all water sports. The 68S may be tech-
nically a hardtop, but you wouldn’t necessarily know
it because an enormous area of roof slides away to
open up some 65 square feet of sky — an effect that
has been achieved by simply dividing the sliding sec-
