Located at the foot of the Alps and on the edge of the
Mediterranean, the Principality of Monaco awaits

Due to the presence of movie and sporting stars who
have chosen it as their residence, this tiny country
has become one of the most glamorous tourist desti-
nations in the world. In Monaco, travelers can visit
the celebrated Rock, the Fontvieille Rose Garden, the
variety ofmuseums, the sumptuous district ofMonte
Carlo and the famous Casino.

Monaco's beaches can only be compared with those
of Nice and Cannes, next to the so-called French
Riviera. Beautiful world-renowned hotels, top-level
restaurants and boutiques of the best designers

the luxury and tranquility of the Principality.

The Principality is divided into four important
zones: Monaco, the capital, sits on top of a rock, 60
meters high by 800 meters long; a Condamine, a
picturesque area that surrounds the port;
Fontvieille, the industrial sector to the south-west
of the capital and Monte Carlo, famous for its
Casino and its formula 1 track through the streets.

Visitors enter the Casino, designed by Charles
Garnier, by climbing a monumental marble stair-
case that leads to the Renaissance lounge, before
entering the Europe room, where 16 onyx pillars
support the Louis XV decoration. At 125 years of
age, the Monte Carlo Casino continues to maintain
the heights of formality that has characterized it
since its origins.

Other things to see in this tiny country include the
Botanical Garden, The Observatory Caves, the
Cathedral and the Prince’s Palace, which are all well
worth a visit and of course the Museum of
Napoleonic Souvenirs, which houses numerous
objects that once belonged to the Emperor. Also
worth seeing are the Oceanographic Museum, with
an astounding variety of exotic fish and the National
Museum, one of whose halls houses a collection of
dolls and mechanical toys from the 18th and 19th
centuries, the only one in the world.

gusto. Este pequeño país, debido a la presencia de
estrellas del cine y del deporte que lo han elegido
como residencia, es tenido por uno de los destinos
turísticos con más glamour del mundo. En Mónaco el
viajero puede visitar: la célebre Roca, el jardín de
rosas de Fontvieille, los variados museos, el suntuo-
so barrio de Montecarlo y el famoso Casino.
• Las playas de Mónaco sólo son comparables a las de
Niza y Cannes, junto a las cuales forma la llamada
Riviera Francesa. Bellísimos hoteles de renombre
internacional, restaurantes de primerísimo nivel, y
boutiques de los mejores diseñadores, completan la
oferta para que el visitante disfrute del lujo y la tran-
quilidad del Principado.
• El Principado está dividido en cuatro zonas de
importancia: Mónaco, la capital, establecida sobre
una roca de sesenta metros de altura y ochocientos
de longitud; la Condamine, un área pintoresca que
rodea el puerto; Fontvieille, el sector industrial al
sudoeste de la capital; y Montecarlo, famosa por su
casino y por la carrera de Fórmula Uno.
• Al casino, diseñado por Charles Garnier, se ingresa
por una monumental escalinata de mármol que
lleva a la sala Renaissance, de allí se pasa al salón
Europa, donde dieciséis pilares de ónix sostienen la
decoración Luis XV. Han pasado ciento veinticinco
años y el Casino de Montecarlo sigue manteniendo
las pautas de formalidad que lo caracterizaron
desde sus orígenes.
• Otras cosas para ver en este pequeño territorio. El
Jardín Botánico, la Gruta del Observatorio, la Catedral y
el Palacio del Príncipe son sitios dignos de visitarse, y
por supuesto El Museo de Recuerdos Napoleónicos,
que conserva numerosos objetos del Emperador
Corso. También son dignos de visitar el Museo
Oceanográfico, con una deslumbrante variedad de
peces exóticos; o el Museo Nacional, una de cuyas
salas guarda una colección de muñecas y de autóma-
tas de los siglos XVIII y XIX única en el mundo.
