Inmy experience feeding sharks, I can comment
that, to this date, we have not seen any dramatic
change in the sharks when they are fed. Of course,
always the one who feeds them is an expert, who
knows their proper diet (almost always topped with
fish or bonito), you must use a steel mesh suit and
gloves, bear in mind which animal is more hungry,
observe their movement patterns and behavior, al-
ways be alert and assisted by a safety diver, and not
feed them more than it’s necessary. Before starting
the activity, it is imperative to listen to the dive and
emergency plan, safety and potential risks. If we
comply with each of these requirements, I assure
you, dear reader, you can enjoy some of the best
dives of his life.
Based on my experience with bull sharks in Pla-
ya del Carmen, I can assure that their behavior does
not change almost anything, because at the end of
his season in this area, the animal disappears as
fast as it arrived.
Notably, when you make contact with one of
these beautiful animals, your perspective about
them changes completely, and instead of destroy-
ing them, want to protect them. Many places in the
world understand now this concept; and besides
the protection of the species, it also signifies an im-
provement to the economy of the region.
En mi experiencia alimentando tiburones, puedo
comentar que, hasta la fecha, no hemos visto ningún
cambio drástico en ellos cuando se les alimenta. Por
supuesto que siempre el que les da de comer es un
experto, quien sabe que se deben alimentar con la
dieta adecuada (casi siempre es con pescado coronado
o bonito); se debe usar un traje de malla de acero y
guantes; tener en cuenta cual es el animal que tiene
más hambre; observar sus patrones de movimiento,
así como su comportamiento, siempre estar atento y
asistido por un buzo de seguridad, y no dar comida de
más. Antes de iniciar la actividad, es imprescindible
escuchar el plan de buceo y de emergencias, medidas
de seguridad, así como los posibles riesgos. Si cum-
plimos con cada uno de estos requisitos, le aseguro,
amigo lector, que podrá disfrutar de unos de losmejores
buceos de su vida.
Por mi vivencia con los tiburones toros de Playa del
Carmen, puedo asegurar que su comportamiento no
cambia casi nada, pues al terminar su temporada en
esta zona, el animal desaparece tan rápido como llegó.
Cabe destacar que, cuando haces contacto con
uno de estos bellos animales, tu visión sobre ellos
cambia por completo, y en vez de destruirlos, quieres
protegerlos. En muchos lugares del mundo ya se en-
tiende este concepto, que además de proteger a la es-
pecie, representa una mejora a la economía de la zona.
