l año 2009 marca el 25 aniversario de Louis
Vuitton, como participante activo del veleris-
mo al más alto nivel, y para celebrarlo organizó
el “Louis Vuitton Pacific Series” en Auckland, Nueva Ze-
landa, del 30 de enero al 14 de febrero del 2009.
Este destino había sido sede en dos ocasiones de
esta competencia, así como también de la America’s
Cup (2000 y 2003).
La historia empieza en 1983, cuando la Copa Louis
Vuitton fue establecida como el más grande contrincante
para la America’s Cup, ésta última, la competencia más
importante y antigua dentro del mundo del velerismo.
Es por eso que desde 1983, la Copa Louis Vuitton
ha representado una importante aportación para le-
vantar mundialmente el nombre y la calidad de la com-
petencia del velerismo.
La nueva copa “Louis Vuitton Pacific Series”, es el re-
sultado del compromiso a largo plazo que Louis Vuitton
hamanifestado con el mundo de los veleros y con la gente
que lo práctica, es por ello que se decidió realizar esta
nueva competencia, en la modalidad “one-off match”, en
donde lomás importante es el espíritu de amistad.
Las embarcaciones fueron proporcionadas, en un
principio, por el equipo anfitrión Emirates, de Nueva
Zelanda, que prestó dos veleros de la America’s Cup, al
igual que BMW Oracle Racing de Estados Unidos.
Inicialmente la carrera estaba planeada para sólo
seis equipos, pero debido a la gran respuesta que tuvo
la Copa se aumentó a 12, siendo el equipo de Estados
Unidos que prestó otros dos veleros adicionales.

he year 2009 celebrates the 25th anniver-
sary of Louis Vuitton as an active participant
of sailing at its highest level, organizing the
“Louis Vuitton Pacific Series” in Auckland, New Zea-
land from January 30th to February 14th 2009.
This destination has previously hosted this
event on the years 2000 and 2003 as well as the
America’s Cup.
The history starts in 1983, when the Louis Vuitton
Cup was established as the biggest competitor to the
America’s Cup, being this last one the oldest andmost
important competition in theworld of sailing.
This is why since 1983, the Louis Vuitton Cup
has an important part in putting up high the name
and quality of sailing worldwide.
The new cup “Louis Vuitton Pacific Series”
is the result of Louis Vuitton’s long term com-
mitment with the world of sailing and with the
people that practice it, that is why it was deci-
ded to do this competition in the “one-off match”
mode, in which the most important thing is the
spirit of friendship.
The boats were mainly provided by the host
team, Emirate from New Zealand, with 2 boats from
the America’s Cup as well as the BMW Oracle Racing
Team from the Unites States.
At first, the race was planned for only 6 teams,
but due to the Cup’s great response it was increased
to 12 teams, being the United States Team the one to
provide another 2 boats.
