Some of the most important matches were be-
tween TEAMORIGIN and Alinghi , where the Swiss
team won by 15 seconds, and the race between the
Italians Damiani Team and the hosts, Emirates Team
who had their first loss by 14 seconds, but without
giving any points to the Italians
Another very important match took place be-
tween BMW Oracle and TEAMORIGIN, in which a lot
of points where deducted from both teams being
TEAMORIGIN the most affected for the qualification
to the Challenger.
As days went by, the third stage of this regatta
took place with the Challenger Sail Off and the Cha-
llenger Finals, where Alinghi went straight to the
finals after having qualified in first place.
In the Challenger’s final, Alinghi and BMWOracle
faced each other. Two regattas were raced, being the
Swiss team the winner in both of them and quali-
fying for the Big Final.
For the Big Final, everything was set for a very
tight and even match, but it wasn’t like that at all,
since the hosts, the New Zealanders Emirates Team,
were the winners 3 to 1. But not everything started
aswell as they expected since the first out of the four
races was surprisingly won by the Swiss rival team.
Anso,after15daysofemotionsandcompetitions,in
the end the people of NewZealandwere able to celebrate
alongwiththeirteam,theLouisVuittonTrophy.
Dentro de los encuentros más importantes es-
tuvieron el que sostuvieron Alinghi y TEAMORIGIN,
donde los suizos ganaron por escasos 15s y el del
equipo italiano Damiani Italia Challenge en contra
de Emirates Team, que supuso la primera derrota de
los locales por 14s, aunque esto no significó puntos
para los italianos.
Otro encuentro muy importante fue el de BMW
Oracle en contra de TEAMORIGIN, el cual les costó pun-
tos de castigo a ambos, afectando mucho a TEAMO-
RIGIN para el final de la clasificación al Challenger.
Avanzados ya los días, se produjo la tercer etapa de
esta regata con el Challenger Sail Off y el Challenger Fi-
nals, en donde Alinghi, por ser el primer sembrado para el
Challenger, se clasificó directamente a la final.
En la final de este Challenger, se enfrentaron el
equipo suizo Alinghi y el estadounidense BMW Oracle.
Se disputaron dos regatas, ganándolas las dos los
suizos, para llegar así hasta la gran final.
Para la final parecía que iba a ser un duelo muy
parejo y bastante cerrado, pero no fue así, ya que el
equipo local, los neozelandeses Emirates Team, se im-
pusieron por tres a uno. Aunque no todo empezó como
ellos querían, ya que la primera de las cuatro regatas la
ganó sorpresivamente el equipo suizo.
Y así, después de 15 días muy emocionantes, al fi-
nal la gente de Nueva Zelanda pudo festejar junto a su
equipo el trofeo Louis Vuitton.
