Istanbul, originally named Byzantium and later Constantinople, is the largest city in Turkey and the third largest in Europe. It has been the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey. It is considered among the most beautiful cities in the world and also the cradle of civilization. The Basilica of St. Sophia, Hagia Sophia mosque today, was initially a church and now, is a mosque. It contains elements of several architectural styles. The Grand Bazaar has been visited for centuries by millions in search of the most amazing and wonderful merchandise. The Blue Mosque, Istanbul’s main tourist attraction, is an icon of the world.
