Cartier necklaces have long served as a canvas for some of the *Maison’s* most ambitious jewelry designs, combining exceptional gemstones, impeccable technical craftsmanship, and an unmistakable signature style. Here are five of the most expensive Cartier necklaces sold at auction since 2020.
- Cartier 'Tutti Frutti' gem-set and diamond necklace (part of a demi-parure). A Cartier "Tutti Frutti" gem-set and diamond jewelry suite [lead photo] sold for $3.3 million in April 2023. The sale comprised the complete set—consisting of a necklace and matching earrings—with the necklace serving as the centerpiece.
A carved hexagonal emerald weighing approximately 50.44 carats and a carved ruby weighing approximately 10.15 carats form the basis of the design; they are surrounded by onyx, diamonds, and carved rubies, sapphires, and emeralds arranged to resemble colorful leaves and flowers. Two pear-shaped carved emerald pendants, totaling approximately 71.22 carats, hang from the necklace and can be detached to be worn with a separate diamond necklace included in the lot. The sapphires are complemented by approximately 40.09 carats of round, baguette, and square-cut diamonds, creating the highly structured, symmetrical composition characteristic of Cartier jewelry from that era. -
Cartier sapphire and diamond necklace. A Cartier sapphire and diamond necklace sold for $2.84 million in June 2023. Dating from around 1950, this pendant-style necklace is set with five emerald-cut and square-cut sapphires weighing 10.01, 7.66, 7.35, 5.45, and 4.44 carats, for a combined weight of 34.91 carats.
- Cartier 'Tutti Frutti' colored-stone and diamond pendant necklace. The Cartier "Tutti Frutti" colored gemstone and diamond pendant necklace sold for $2.75 million in April 2026. The elaborate design centers on a pair of embracing parrots set with brilliant-cut diamonds, featuring round-cut emerald eyes and mother-of-pearl beaks.
Carved rubies, emeralds, and sapphires form the surrounding foliate decoration, accented by further diamonds and a suspended briolette diamond. Three strands of emerald beads complete the necklace, joined by a clasp similarly set with carved colored gemstones and diamonds.
The emerald is suspended within a frame of Old European-cut diamonds and complemented by a significant series of diamonds, notably a 5.54-carat marquise-cut diamond (D color, VS2 clarity) and a 3.12-carat heart-shaped diamond. A 2.64-carat cushion-cut emerald, surrounded by rose-cut diamonds, forms the clasp. - Cartier natural pearl and diamond necklace. A Cartier natural pearl and diamond necklace, formerly in the collection of Marylou Whitney, sold for $1.65 million in December 2020. The necklace consists of 32 graduated natural saltwater pearls—ranging approximately from 14.9 x 14.8 mm to 9.2 x 9 mm—and is finished with a clasp adorned with two round diamonds set in a floral motif.
- Cartier emerald and diamond pendant necklace. A Cartier emerald and diamond pendant necklace sold for $1.7 million in November 2025. Dating to around 1932, its centerpiece is an 11.78-carat octagonal step-cut Colombian emerald, accompanied by an SSEF report noting a minor presence of oil.
