Roger Dubuis brings the curtain down on its Knights of the Round Table trilogy, dedicated to one of the key figures of Arthurian legend: Merlin.
After highlighting his omniscience and mastery of magic, the Maison now pays tribute to his shapeshifting powers and the symbolism they embody. This new limited edition of 28 pieces features a deep green, multidimensional dial composed of 57 blocks crafted from four different materials.
In a true showcase of the Maison’s savoir-faire, the case features—for the first time—a hand-engraving depicting Merlin, alongside the twelve iconic micro-sculpted knights.
For over a decade, Roger Dubuis has reinterpreted Arthurian legend through its expressive Knights of the Round Table creations. Each trilogy has explored a different chapter of this legendary universe through highly sophisticated craftsmanship, architectural compositions, and uncompromising mechanical mastery.
The fourth installment of this saga is dedicated to Merlin—the legendary wizard, prophet, and advisor—whose wisdom shaped the destiny of King Arthur and the Round Table.
This new creation celebrates Merlin’s extraordinary shapeshifting ability, drawing inspiration from the symbolism of the mythical white stag, which embodies transformation and the passage between the visible and invisible worlds.
The dial is composed of 57 individually crafted blocks, combining green CVD-coated elements, polished pink gold, transparent glass, and shimmering Crystalium to create depth, texture, and shifting reflections. Each block is set at a different height, creating a striking three-dimensional composition. Rather than literally depicting a forest, Roger Dubuis recreates its atmosphere through architecture, materials, and light. Each element contributes to a composition that reveals new perspectives with every glance and invites the continuous discovery of new details.
For the first time in the collection, the legend extends beyond the dial, as the pink gold case itself becomes a canvas. Entirely hand-engraved, it depicts Merlin in both his human and animal forms: as the mythical white stag—symbolizing his metamorphosis—and as the wise figure holding a book, a subtle reference to the knowledge and omniscience already explored in the trilogy's first chapter.
Framing the dial, the twelve iconic Knights of the Round Table take their positions. Standing just six millimeters tall, each pink gold knight requires approximately three days of meticulous hand-finishing by a specialized engraver.
Developed, manufactured, and hand-finished entirely in-house, the automatic RD821 caliber was designed specifically to accommodate the dial's three-dimensional architecture while preserving the balanced proportions of the Maison’s iconic Excalibur case. Comprising 172 components, the caliber is hand-finished to the exacting standards of the prestigious Poinçon de Genève (Hallmark of Geneva) certification, which mandates fourteen distinct decorative techniques reflecting Roger Dubuis’s unwavering commitment to Genevan watchmaking excellence.
The 45mm pink gold case is completed by a sapphire crystal that allows the dial’s sculptural composition to be admired from various angles.
