A trio of models introduced Panerai, reintroducing one of the House's most iconic case designs from the 1990s, available for the first time in a 42mm version.
These are the new Luminor PAM01710, PAM01711 and PAM01714. This trio is inspired by the Luminor Ref. 5218-201/A and Luminor Marina Militare Ref. 5218-202/A, originally presented together with the Mare Nostrum Ref. 5218-301/A aboard the Italian destroyer Durand de la Penne (D560) on September 10, 1993.
These new references recover an emblematic design language, now with a smaller diameter that increases their versatility and broadens their appeal to a broader and younger audience.
The 1990s case design quickly achieved iconic status upon its release to the civilian public, thanks to an innovative aesthetic that boldly challenged traditional watchmaking norms. At that time, the historic 47mm proportions evolved into a more compact 44mm format, while the monobloc case adopted a slimmer geometry.
The three new Luminor references retain the same design principles: their case maintains the imposing presence of the Luminor of the nineties, while their proportions have been carefully adapted to a more versatile size of 42 mm, offering greater comfort for a wide variety of wrists.
The refined case is combined with a dial with printed indexes and Super-LumiNova, highlighting one of Panerai's most representative functional codes: maximum visibility and luminosity in low light conditions. These new watches are distinguished by a dial composed of a single plate, on which all graphic indexes are printed in different colors and through a step-by-step application process.
The new Luminor PAM01710 sets the tone for the collection with a steel case, matte black dial, matching hands, ivory Super-LumiNova® and a beige canvas strap. For its part, the Luminor PAM01711 maintains the same steel case, but incorporates a matte green dial and a green canvas strap. The Luminor PAM01714 completes the trio with a DLC-coated steel case, matte beige dial, and a blue canvas strap. Its dark case reinforces the presence of the watch and accentuates the lines of its architecture inspired by models from the 1990s, while the DLC coating has been selected for both its technical properties and its aesthetic impact.
The new canvas straps have been developed specifically for these models. Light, resistant and durable, they give the watches a classically inspired sporty character, staying true to Panerai's functional spirit. Each strap incorporates leather reinforcements around the holes to increase its resistance, and the watches are compatible with Panerai straps with a 22/20 mm profile, available in alligator leather, calfskin, rubber, textile and combined materials, all of them equipped with the PAM Click Release System quick release system.
