Stanley Kubrick (1928–1999), one of the most respected and influential filmmakers of all time, left an indelible mark on culture.

Whether through 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Full Metal Jacket (1987), A Clockwork Orange (1971), The Shining (1980), or Eyes Wide Shut (1999)—Kubrick’s final film—his works transcended boundaries and redefined the limits of cinema, leaving a lasting impression on the collective consciousness that extends far beyond the screen.

In 1995, Kubrick presented Steven Spielberg with a screenplay about a child-like robot and his quest to become a real boy. Following Kubrick’s sudden death in 1999, Spielberg revisited the notes left by Kubrick and his screenwriters and penned a new script. Working alongside the remnants of Kubrick’s production team, Spielberg directed the film A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001).

Now, for the first time, the auction house Bonhams is offering a collection from one of cinema’s true auteurs, as his personal archive goes up for sale.

Sourced directly from the Stanley Kubrick Film Archives, the collection includes original props, annotated scripts, production materials, awards, filmmaking equipment, and personal items that reveal the meticulous craftsmanship and creative vision behind some of the most iconic films in history. Among the items are the clapperboard used in The Shining, Kubrick’s director’s chair, Jack Torrance’s axe, and the dresses worn by the Grady twins in The Shining, as well as various awards received by the American-born, naturalized British director.

The standout pieces will travel to Bonhams locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris in October and November 2026. The complete collection will be reunited and exhibited at Bonhams New Bond Street in London starting January 18, 2027—the final opportunity to view the collection in its entirety. The exhibition will culminate in a historic live auction on February 3, followed by an online sale concluding on February 4, 2027.
