A trio of smart, expandable RV concepts continues the industry's ongoing design evolution.

Design agency Pininfarina has refined and expanded the travel trailer concept it created for AC Future and unveiled last year at CES. For the 2025 show, AC Future unveiled a series of three models: the AI-THu (AI Transformer Home Unit), the AI-THt (AI Transformer Home Trailer), and the original AI-THd (AI Transformer Home Drivable).

As the names suggest, the models are expanding, starting with the AI-THu. This will be the first product to hit the market and is perhaps the simplest. Designed to sit on a fixed base, the AI-THu is intended to be a simple yet sophisticated way to expand living space to accommodate an office or additional bedroom.

The structure itself covers a total of 400 square feet and includes a multi-zone climate and sound system as well as smart home systems in the Premium version. Additional modules can also be combined to expand the living space, with patios, terraces and even barbecue facilities available.

As the world spins into the unknown and the seasons change, the idea of getting away from it all has never been more appealing. Perhaps that explains the flurry of conceptual and production visions for such caravans. Cocoon-Freelancer, RollAway Hospitality's electric motorhome, and many more.

This model will be joined by the AI-THt, the "Transformer Home Trailer," a 7.3-meter-long travel trailer with sliding extensions that also give it a 37.5-square-meter footprint, more than double its size in travel mode. The interior is designed to be flexible and adaptable to a variety of uses. As with all three models, Pininfarina has combined its transportation expertise with architectural inspiration.

Finally, there is the AI-THd, a fully autonomous Artificial Intelligence Transformer Recreational Vehicle that can be driven. It is essentially the AI-THt model with an additional driver module.

Francisco Barboza, Senior Design Director at Pininfarina of America, describes the main challenge of the project as "maintaining an efficient plant while taking into account the complexity of the opening systems. Our goal was to create an iconic object that resonates with people and their environment.

First deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with more details on the artificial intelligence aspect of the smart home systems to be released in due course.

"Our collaboration with Pininfarina has led to the development of sustainable home designs that are beautiful and adaptable to the changing needs of modern living," said Laura Czarnecki, co-chief executive officer of AC Future.
