Through actions focused on reducing its environmental impact, promoting the well-being of fans and staff, and driving social and community benefits that extend beyond race days, the Formula 1 Mexico GP is reinforcing its sustainability strategy.
One of the key projects for 2026 is "Una Chinampa, Impacto Real" (One Chinampa, Real Impact). This initiative brings the Mexico GP’s sustainability strategy to one of Mexico City’s most iconic biocultural ecosystems, in partnership with Arca Tierra—an organization dedicated to small-scale farming, agroecological production, and the conservation of Xochimilco’s *chinampa* (floating garden) ecosystems.
The project entails the recovery of 2,260 m² of *chinampa* land, the restoration of 2,489 m² of canals, and the planting of 4,900 *ahuejote* trees, thereby contributing to biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration. It will generate over 16,800 workdays and empower more than 50 women through the "Mujer Medicina" program, while also preserving ancestral knowledge and providing direct support to local producers.
"Una Chinampa, Impacto Real" will also reach the Mexico GP’s hospitality areas through the "De la Chinampa a la Mesa" (From Chinampa to Table) gastronomic experience, which highlights the traceability of the ingredients used. One of the dishes will feature 500 kg of white corn grown on the *chinampas* by Arca Tierra, linking local production directly to the event's culinary experience.
Decarbonization
- Energy: Installation of an EBOSS battery system for the staff dining area, resulting in an estimated 67% saving in diesel consumption over a period of more than 30 days. Solar-powered work lights will also be used during the setup phase. This measure prevented 17 tonnes of CO₂emissions in 2025.
- Carbon footprint measurement: For the third consecutive year, the Grand Prix’s carbon footprint will be measured across all three scopes.
- Sustainable mobility: In collaboration with Ualabee, a real-time mobility planner has been developed; it will be available via the Mexico GP app to facilitate fan travel.
- Ticket2Ride: The program will feature 13 pickup points across Mexico City and the State of Mexico, offering bus transport for fans to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, thereby reducing traffic congestion and easing access to the event.
Circularity
- Zero Waste Strategy: A "Zero Waste" event strategy will be implemented for the first time; recoverable materials will be channeled into circularity streams, while remaining waste will be diverted to co-processing operations in cement kilns.
- Waste separation: 333 waste segregation stations will be installed throughout the venue, featuring over 1,000 bins designated for inorganic waste, organic waste, and aluminum.
- Circularity Plan: During the teardown phase, a plan will be implemented to recover, repurpose, and recycle materials from structures, activations, and furniture through certified partners.
- Organic waste: Organic waste will be collected for composting. Estimates indicate the recovery of over 19 tonnes from the staff dining area and 1,800 kg from general admission and hospitality areas. • Urban Reforestation: The Mexico GP and OCESA joined the Mexico City Government’s 2026 Urban Reforestation Program by donating 2,000 trees and four tons of compost, contributing to the recovery and enhancement of the capital's green spaces.
- Beverages and Packaging: The Mexico GP will collaborate with various organizations to recover and recycle beverage waste from the event—including glass, Tetra Pak, aluminum, and PET—with the goal of reintegrating these materials into new products.
- Zero-Waste Hydration: Attendees will have access to free hydration via Tetra Pak cartons, 11 Banorte hydration stations, 8 Heineken responsible-consumption dispensers, and BUI water in three-layer bottles, thereby reducing single-use packaging waste.
- Water Conservation: 28 dry toilets will be installed in general admission areas, reducing water consumption and producing compost to help enrich the soil.
Well-being
- Racing Teams of the Future: The Mexico GP will feature 16 interactive games and activities in general admission areas aimed at young people interested in the world of motorsports and technology—including an activity by UNAM Motorsports—bringing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) closer to new generations.
- Sustainable Food: The event will offer vegetarian options in general admission and hospitality areas and will continue its partnership with Alianza Alimentaria to develop sustainable, tailored food strategies for the staff dining area.
- Protection Sun and hearing protection: The venue will feature 5,509 m² of shaded areas, and sunscreen will be distributed to fans. Additionally, 20,000 pairs of earplugs will be provided in hospitality areas and at information booths.
- Accessibility: Accessibility pins will be voluntarily distributed at information booths to fans with visible or invisible disabilities who wish to receive personalized assistance. There will be two "Banorte" accessible zones, as well as nine Mexican Sign Language (LSM) interpreters stationed at information booths throughout the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
- Early childhood: Eight baby-changing stations—which also serve as "Baby Pit Stop" nursing rooms—will be installed, alongside two activations specifically designed for children as part of the "Kids' Journey" experience.
- Social partners: The Mexico GP will feature the participation of the Reintegra Foundation and the John Langdon Down Foundation, integrating them into the event's culinary and service offerings.
