l igual que la codiciada estatuilla incrus-
tada con piedras preciosas, el Halcón
Maltés, está rodeado de lujo y ostenta-
ción. Este superyate fue construido para
Tom Perkins, el magnate estadunidense,
por Perini Navi en Turquía en 2006, y con él se abre la
puerta para una nueva generación de embarcaciones.
En unmismo barco se ha reunido lo último de la tecno-
logía y lo mejor del diseño.
Para su construcción, Perkins invirtió alrededor de
100 millones de euros, aunque tan solo tres años des-
pués de botarlo, lo vendió a Elena Ambrosiadou, una
de las empresarias más ricas del mundo, quien actual-
mente lo ofrece como chárter.
Con 289 pies de eslora (88 m) y 41 pies de man-
ga (12.6 m), el Halcón Maltés es uno de los yates más
grandes del mundo; pesa 1,240 toneladas, sin embargo
navegando sin motores puede llegar a los 20 nudos, al-
canza las 3,000 millas náuticas a una velocidad de cru-
cero de 14 nudos. Aunque tal vez lo más llamativo sea
su sistema de velas: el DynaRig, un hito en la historia
de los yates de vela. Con un aparejo cruzado, consta de
tresmástiles rotatorios de fibra de carbono con seis ga-
vias cada uno. El DynaRig fue diseñado originalmente
por el inventor alemán Wilhelm Prölss durante los años
sesenta, con la idea de proporcionar a los buques una
propulsión adicional. Este sistema ha alcanzado en el
Halcón Maltés su máxima expresión.
En los mástiles se alojan 15 velas cuadradas que en
total suman 2,400 m

. El despliegue se realiza desde el
puente de mando, y tarda aprox. seis minutos. Todos los
sistemas de navegación están automatizados, por lo que
la operación puede ser realizada por un par de personas.

same vessel, the latest in technology and the great-
est in design were brought together.
For her construction, Perkins invested about

With a length of 289 feet (88 m) and 41 feet
beam (12.6 m), the Maltese Falcon is one of the
largest yachts in the world; in spite of weighing

with her engines off, still she can reach 3,000 nau-
tical miles, at 14 knots cruise speed. Nevertheless,
her rigging system –the DynaRig—might be her
most striking feature; a milestone in the history
of sailing yachts. With a square rig, she has three
carbon fiber rotating masts with six topsails each;
the DynaRig was originally designed by Wilhem
Prölss, in the sixties, aiming at giving the vessels

six minutes. All the navigation systems are au-
tomated so it can be operated by a pair of people.
