Motor yacht Enigma is famous because of

the unique, almost naval frigate style, yacht de-

sign. Also, she has been one of the largest and

certainly the fast private yachts for a very long

time. Enigma was built for a Mexican magnate,

the yacht was launched as ECO in 1998 and she

was purchased by American Oracle boss Larry

Ellison. She became ubiquitous at yacht racing

regattas, such as the America’s Cup, after Mr. El-

lison bought her and renamed her Katana, a Jap-

anese word. Still an all time favourite yacht for

many, M/Y Katana is powered by two diesels but

also a gas turbine.

diseño tipo fragata. Más aun, sigue siendo uno de los

más grandes—y ciertamente uno de los más rápi-

dos—yates privados desde tiempo atrás. Enimga fue

construido para un magnate mexicano, y original-

mente poseía el nombre de “ECO”, pero en 1998 fue

adquirido por Larry Ellison. Este yate se convirtió en

un ícono de las regatas y las carreras de yates, como

lo sería la Copa Americana. Después de ser adquiri-

da por el Sr. Ellison, éste la renombró KATANA, una

palabra japonesa. El KATANA, un favorito de muchos,

tuvo como fuente de poder dos motores diésel pero

también una turbina de gas.
