2. Acceso al cenote
Access to the cenote.
posterior, el cenote se va llenando de escombros,
disminuye su profundidad, se secan y por fin queda
reducido a una fosa con vegetación. Mientras no está
inundado, el agua que filtra va formando estalacti-
tas y estalagmitas que brotan en techos y suelo
respectivamente. Estas columnas calcáreas pueden
alcanzar diámetros de un metro hasta siete u ocho
metros de longitud.
Yucatán posee más 3,000 cenotes, a diferencia
de la Riviera Maya, éstos no están conectados por
ríos subterráneos. A este conjunto se le denomina “El
anillo de Cenotes” mismos que fueron formados por
meteorito que impactó con la tierra, hace 65 millones
de años, provocando la extinción de los dinosaurios.
Los Cenotes se clasifican:
• Cenote de cielo abierto.
• Cenote semiabierto.
• Cenote subterráneo o gruta.
Esta clasificación está relacionada con la edad
del cenote siendo los maduros los que se encuentran
completamente abiertos y los más jóvenes los que
todavía mantienen su cúpula intacta.

This classification is organized according to the
age of the cenote. Amature cenote is the one which is
completely open at its roof, and the cenote which still
retains its whole dome is considered the youngest.
