Tanto la caza como el resto de la vida del gran
tiburón blanco suelen ser solitarios. Ocasionalmente
se ven parejas o pequeños grupos desplazándose a la
búsqueda de alimento. Aunque son preferentemente
nómadas, algunos ejemplares prefieren alimentarse
en ciertas zonas costeras, como ocurre en algunas
regiones de California, Sudáfrica y Australia.
La presencia del gran tiburón blanco en aguas
mexicanas era considerada hasta hace algunos años
como rara o esporádica. Sin embargo, existen algunos
registros de avistamientos de tiburones blancos en el
Golfo de California, así como en las islas de Cedros, San
Benito y la propia Guadalupe. Mediante investigaciones
recientes, ésta última ha sido considerada como uno de
los lugares de congregación más importantes de tibu-
rones blancos del Océano Pacífico y en el mundo.
Como ya lo habíamos mencionado anterior-
mente, los tiburones visitan la isla únicamente entre
los meses de julio y diciembre. No obstante, algunos
regresan año tras año y cuandomigran se dirigen a un
área específica en medio del Océano Pacífico que se le
llama “El café de los tiburones blanco”, y a sitios tan
alejados como las islas de Hawaii.
Both the hunting and the shark’s life are very
solitary. Occasionally couples or little groups have
been seen swimming around in search of food. Even
they are nomads, some would rather feed in certain
coastline zones, like it happens in some regions of
California, South Africa and Australia.
The presence of the great white shark in Mexi-
can waters was considered until recent years as
rare or sporadic. Nevertheless, there are registries
of some great white sighting in the Gulf of Cali-
fornia, as well as in the Cedros Islands, San Benito
and Guadalupe. Through recent research, this last
one has been considered as one of the most impor-
tant great white shark congregations in the Pacific
Ocean and the world.
Asmentioned before, sharks only visit the island
between the months of July and December. Even
though, some of them come back year after year and
when they migrate the go to a certain spot in the Pa-
cific Ocean called the “Great White Shark Café”, and
also far away places like the islands in Hawaii.
