An open-bar and a fancy dress contest were the
driving force behind the best party of the event, so
muchso that the competitors andeven themembers
of the organizing committee could not have had a
better time. Nobody would have imagined that the
competition by team, not by boat, but which country
would dress up the best, would be so much fun,
where the interaction between the participating
nations could not be compared. Their creativity and
the light of the moment made the maxim of “it is
more important to compete than to win” a reality.
Human relationships were never more inter-
twined away from the competition than during the
AMURA evening. All round laughter, intense excite-
ment andahealthyand festiveatmosphere couldnot
be seen in any nightclub in Vallarta during these
days. All the sailboat crews will surely remember
with great excitement, fromthe first day to the last, a
magic night of fraternity and cultural exchange,
prior to the last five days of competition, which
included 10 glorious regattas (two per day), which
will remain etched in the memory of all who wit-
nessed them, with an expression of being absolutely
sure of what they say: that this has been the best UBS
J/24World Championship to date.
And looking forward to the next world champi-
onship, in Italy in 2008, we look forward to the
repeated success of the event held in Vallarta, which
left an indelible fingerprint forever.
Barra libre y concurso de disfraces fue el motor
de la mejor fiesta del evento. Y es que los competi-
dores, e incluso los miembros del comité organiza-
dor, no se lo pudieron pasar mejor. Nadie imaginó
que la competencia por equipos (no la de los barcos
sino aquella sobre qué país se disfrazaría mejor)
fuese tan divertida, donde la interacción entre las
naciones participantes no tuvo punto de compara-
ción. La creatividad y el lúdico momento lograron
hacer realidad aquella máxima de que ‘lo importan-
te es competir no ganar’.
Las relaciones humanas nunca estuvieron más
entrelazadas fuera de competencia que durante la
noche de AMURA. Risas por doquier, intensa emoción
y un ambiente sanamente festivo que no se vio por
ninguna disco en Vallarta por esos días.
Evidentemente todos los veleristas, desde el primer
lugar al último, recordarán con la emoción a flor de piel
una noche mágica de fraternidad e intercambio cultu-
ral, previo al último de los cinco días de competencia,
donde se escenificaron 10 gloriosas regatas (dos por
jornada) que quedaran grabadas en el recuerdo del
que todos afirmaron –con el gesto del que está abso-
lutamente seguro de lo que dice- ha sido el mejor
Campeonato Mundial UBS J/24 hasta la fecha.

Donde esperamos se emule el éxito de un evento
que, en tierras vallartenses, dejó una huella imborra-
ble por siempre.
