Catalan painter Manuel Pujol Baladas
mirrors not only the artist’s personal tal-
ent, but also deep feelings and experiences.
For this reason the artist considers the act
of painting to be a state of impersonation
where people stop being themselves and sud-
denly become artists. “The advantage that we
have as painters is that everyone dares to
paint”, he says.
For the artist, it isn’t easy speaking about his
work. Still, he considers his artistic style to fall
within Abstract Expressionism, influential since
the 1950`
s and 60’s, when art movements were
still big. “We’re a little bit like the children of
these movements”.
Regarding the art world’s current state of
affairs, he indicated that now luckily “there are
no movements that define how to paint, which
means that it’s much freer, there isn’t any one
school that sets the standard”. He added that the
art movement past has finished, and that now
artists are more individualist.
Speaking of himself, the artist spoke of per-
sonal writings each day, of a visual language
which essentially represents how he feels.
“I define myself as M. Pujol Baladas”. He
added that his painting fell within Abstract
Expressionism, a broad concept which accom-
modates many ideas, from near figurative lan-
guage to abstraction.

to, pero sobre todo, sus sentimientos y sus
vivencias. Precisamente por ello es que para el artis-
ta la pintura es un estado de mimetismo en donde
todos dejan de ser lo que son para convertirse en
artistas: “la ventaja que tenemos nosotros, como
pintores, es que todo el mundo se atreve a pintar”.
M. Pujol Baladas reconoce que le resulta difícil
hablar de su obra. Sin embargo, considera estar
dentro del expresionismo abstracto, que de alguna
manera está vigente desde los años 50-60, a partir
de los cuales ha habido grandes movimientos.
“Nosotros somos un poco hijos de estos movi-
mientos”.
Sobre el momento actual del arte señaló que, por
suerte, “no existe un movimiento que defina una
tendencia de cómo pintar, digamos que es mucho
más libre, es decir, no existen esos movimientos que
marcaban pauta”. Comentó que esa historia se acabó
y que ahora el artista en el fondo se ha vuelto muy
individualista.
Al autodefinirse, el artista habló de una escritura
personal de cada día, de su lenguaje pictórico que en
realidad es la forma en cómo se siente. “Yo me defi-
no como M. Pujol Baladas”. Agregó que su pintura
debe estar dentro de este expresionismo abstracto,
donde el concepto es bastante amplio, digamos
caben bastantes cosas en este aspecto, desde un
lenguaje prácticamente figurativo hasta la abstrac-
ción, señaló.
