By looking closely, we discover that gestures rep-
resented in the artist’s work are consistent; the
expression and visual impact of each stroke, their
feeling and color, donot vary. Towhichhe says: “each
of us has our own special diction. The final results of
any work are the elements that make it identifiable”.
Also worth noting is that each time he starts to
paint something he always has a clear idea what
he wishes to say and how he wants to say it. “I
don’t paint from a blank; I already know what the
piece is about.”
Challenge of Personal Re-Creation
With respect to materials, M. Pujol Baladas spoke
about how much he enjoyed paper. “I very much
like it. I’ve workedmany types of paper, but gener-
ally use artisan paper; in other words we make it
here by hand”. Nevertheless, he has been recently
leaning toward canvas. “Right now I’m going back
to canvas as a base material; above all I’m working
with very large sizes, which I enjoy. I like large-
scale painting and canvas has taken a dominant
role in my production”. His work right now is
about 60 percent canvas and 40 percent paper.
He has been very versatile, having used canvas,
paper, cardboard and hard materials such as lami-
na, etc. for his work.
Looking at his own painting, he talks about a
freedom he would have enjoyed had he broken with

Podemos decir al apreciar su trabajo que en la
pintura de M. Pujol Baladas el gesto es el mismo, la
fuerza de la impresión de la pincelada, del sentimien-
to, del color, no cambia. Al respecto, señaló que “cada
uno tenemos nuestra dicción muy personal y el
resultado final de la obra es que todos sus elementos
son identificables”.
Pero algo muy importante es que una vez que
empieza a pintar tiene siempre una idea clara de qué
es lo que quiere decir y la manera en cómo plantear-
lo. “Yo no pinto en blanco, ya tengo pensada la obra”.
El reto de crearse nuevamente
Respecto al material que gusta usar para su trabajo,
M. Pujol Baladas habló de su gusto por el papel. “Me
gusta mucho, he trabajado incluso diversos tipos de
papel, pero uso papel artesanal, lo hacemos a mano
por decirlo de alguna manera”. Sin embargo, existe
también su inclinación a la tela. “En estos momentos
estoy recuperando muchísimo más la tela como
soporte y sobretodo estoy trabajando con tamaños
muy grandes, los disfruto mucho, a mi me gusta pin-
tar muy grande y la tela es el dominante de mi pro-
ducción. En su obra, en este momento, habló de un
60 por ciento tela y un 40 por ciento papel.
Ha sido muy versátil porque igual pinta en tela,
papel, cartón corrugado o en lienzos de materiales
duros como puede ser algún tipo de lámina, etcétera.
Al tratar de hacer autocrítica de su obra, se refi-
rió a la libertad que hubiera querido tener y haber
