Polo tailandés sobre elefantes
Thai Polo on Elephants
If the game of polo on horses is already famous
by itself and it is practiced in several countries
around the world, from Pakistan to Nepal. In
Thailand, the same as in Nepal, the polo on ele-
phants has become a national sport and also very
well attended, played by the Mogol king’s in India,
relived since the decade of the 80´
s.
Each team is composed by three elephants with
their mahout, (the person that guides the pachy-
derm). The player has to hit the ball, with their bam-
boo stick finishing it by a hammer, of 1.80 meters
long. The fieldmeasures 90by55meters. The game is
divided in two periods of seven minutes each, with
an interval of 15minutes.

i el juego del polo sobre caballos es famoso
y se practica en varias partes del mundo,
desde Pakistán hasta Nepal. En Tailandia, al
igual que en Nepal, el polo sobre elefantes se ha
vuelto un deporte nacional y muy concurrido,
jugado por los reyes Mogol en la India, revivido
desde la década de los 80.
Cada equipo se compone de tres elefantes con
su mahout (el que guía al paquidermo). El jugador
tiene que pegar a la bola, con su palo de bambú
terminado por un martillo, de 1.80 metros de
largo. El campo mide 90 por 55 metros. El juego se
divide en dos periodos de siete minutos, con un
intervalo de 15 minutos.
