he Icon A5 made its official presentation offi-
cial in the market of the Light Sport Aircrafts
and Seaplanes (Light Sport Aircraft, LSA), after
finishing successfully its first flight of its prototype.
The new aircraft manufacturer celebrated the
success of the A5 from land, when it softly landed
on sea on top of a lake in California, carrying Jon
Krakow in its interior, test pilot andmain engineer
of Icon, who was very satisfied with the aircraft
performance and its flight characteristics during
the take-off and landing, as well as its slow speed
maneuverability.
Krakow is an expert test pilot that has realized
many first flights of unforgettable aircrafts,
including the Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer, on board
which Steve Fossett (r.i.p) would establish a world
record of global flight.
The prototype will pass through several test
flight phases during the next year before the com-
plete design is finished. After the test flights, a
pre-production model will be built to verify that it
reaches all the standards of the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and of the ASTM (American
Section of the International Association for
Testing Materials) before it enters to production by
the end of the year 2010.
It is Kept at Home
The Icon A5 is a sports aircraft with an amphibious
design, with a retractable landing gear to take-off
from land or water, which has different technologies
among which the folding wings that make possible
to put it away easily or to be tugged in land.
One person can unfold the wings manually
very quickly, and there is the option that allows
that the mechanism will be automatically acti-
vated sea from the cabin while it is parked in
land or water.
The model, made with a structure of carbon
fiber of great strength, is propelled by a reliable
Rotax 912 ULS motor of 100 hp that works with
gasoline, which produces a top speed of 207 km/h.

mercado de Aviones Deportivos Ligeros y
Anfibios (Light Sport Aircraft LSA), luego de
realizar con éxito el primer vuelo de su prototipo.
El nuevo fabricante de aeronaves celebró desde
tierra, el éxito del A5 cuando amarró suavemente
sobre un lago en California, llevando en su interior a
Jon Karkow, piloto de pruebas y principal ingeniero
de Icon, quien quedó satisfecho por el desempeño de
la aeronave y sus características de vuelo durante el
despegue y aterrizaje, así como la maniobrabilidad a
baja velocidad.
Karkow es un piloto experto de pruebas que ha
realizado muchos primeros vuelos de aeronaves
inolvidables, incluyendo el Virgin Atlantic Global
Flyer, a bordo del cual Steve Fossett (q.e.p.d.) impon-
dría el récord mundial de vuelo global.
El prototipo pasará por varias fases de vuelo de
prueba durante el próximo año antes de que el dise-
ño esté terminado. Después de los vuelos de prueba,
un modelo de pre-producción será construido para
verificar que alcance todos los estándares de la
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) y ASTM
(American Section of the International Association
for Testing Materials), antes de entrar a producción a
finales del año 2010.

El Icon A5 es un avión deportivo con diseño anfibio, con
un tren de aterrizaje retráctil para despegar desde tie-
rra o agua, que posee diferentes tecnologías entre las
que sobresalen las alas plegadizas que permiten guar-
darlo fácilmente o ser remolcado en tierra.
Una persona puede desplegar rápidamente las alas
manualmente, y existe la opción que permite que el
mecanismo sea activado automáticamente desde la
cabina mientras se estaciona en tierra o agua.
El modelo, realizado con una estructura de fibra
de carbón de gran fuerza, es impulsado por un con-
fiable motor Rotax 912 ULS de 100 hp, que funciona
con gasolina de automóvil, lo cual produce una velo-
cidad tope de 207 km/h.
