The
Amazona Versicolor
has contrib-
uted to Saint Lucia as more than a na-
tional symbol; it unified a community that
worked together to rescue the species from
the status of critical endangerment it suf-
fered in the 50s. Without a doubt it contributes
to the visual appeal of the island and its ecosys-
tem; sightings of this exceptional creature are part
of the touristic experience, and there are different
locations for this activity. Among them is the Millet
Bird Sanctuary, which can be reached, even though
it is in the heart of the rainforest, through a trail
that branches out from the Roseau trail, west
of the island. Another tempting option is
the Gros Piton trail, on one of the volcanic
mountains that have become the touris-
tic image of the island; among its many
qualities is the opportunity to watch the flight of the
Amazon. The Des Cartier Rainforest Trail is considered
one of the best sites for bird watching, or the Edmund
National Rainforest, where a guide is needed throughout
the three-hour hike to contemplate the natural wonders
and the local birds.

nacional a Santa Lucía; ha unificado a una comunidad, la cual
trabajó para rescatar a la especie del peligro de extinción en
el que se encontraba en la década de los 50. Indudablemente
contribuye al atractivo visual que es la isla y su ecosistema;
el avistamiento de esta excepcional criatura es parte de la
experiencia turística, ya que existen diversos lugares para
realizar esta actividad; entre ellos está el Santuario de aves
Millet, accesible, a pesar de que se encuentra en el corazón
de la selva, mediante un sendero que parte del camino
Roseau al oeste de la isla. Otra tentadora opción
es el Camino Gros Piton, en una de las montañas
volcánicas que se han convertido en la imagen
turística de la isla; entre sus cualidades está
la oportunidad de observar el vuelo de la

Des Cartier
es considerado uno de los mejores sitios
para observar aves, o la selva nacional de
Edmund, donde se necesita de un guía para
andar las tres horas que dura el recorrido,
para contemplar las maravillas natura-
les y las aves locales.
