“The tournament is so important that it marks
the beginning of the high season of the destina-
tion”, he claimed.
To explain the importance of sport fishing in the
destination, he quoted the conclusions of a study
taken by the University of Texas A&M, which determi-
nedthateachsportfishingmanspendsbetween6and
7 thousand dollars during the days of the tournament
andifyoumultiplythatbythenumberofparticipants,
the importance of fishing tournaments are very clear.
He stated that 60 per cent of the participants
come with their ship and that the other 40 per cent
rents one. That is why Cabo San Lucas holds the
biggest sport fishing fleet in all of Latin America.
He added that all year there is stripped marlin
in the Sea of Cortes, but that the blue and black
marlin, in which the Bisbee's tournament and
other tournaments are based on, is a migratory
species and arrive at the end of July, both leave at
the end of October. That is why the biggest tourna-
ments in Los Cabos are done during this period.
Bisbee's tournament is the more known abroad
that in Mexico, but this year there were people pre-
sent from Guanajuato, Monterrey, Ciudad de
México, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo,
Mazatlán, Los Mochis, there was a lot of Mexican
attendance of a sector of an upper economical
level and it is rising.
He claimed that the International Game Fish
Association (IGFA) fines this tournament.
This year's tournament had high expectations,
since the threat from hurricane Rick put at risk its
celebration, there were even ships that cancelled
their attendance for such risk. Nevertheless, at the
end the weather was kind and as always a great
tournament took place.

Para explicar la importancia de la pesca depor-
tiva en el destino, citó los resultados de un estu-
dio que realizó la Universidad de Texas A&M, que
determinó que cada pescador deportivo derrama
de 6 a 7 mil dólares durante los días que dura el
torneo y si ello se multiplica por el número de par-
ticipantes, deja muy claro la importancia de los
torneos de pesca.
Dijo que el 60% de los participantes viene con su
embarcación y el 40% restante llega y la alquila, por
eso Cabo San Lucas cuenta con la flota de pesca
deportiva más grande de toda América Latina.
Recordó que todo el año hay Marlin rayado en
el Mar de Cortés, pero el Marlin azul y negro, en el
que está basado el torneo Bisbee’s y otros torne-
os, es una especie migratoria y llegan desde fina-
les de julio y ambas se van al cierre de octubre. Por
eso los mayores torneos de Los Cabos se realizan
entre este periodo.
El torneo Bisbee’s es más conocido en el
extranjero que en México, pero este año ya tuvie-
ron presencia de Guanajuato, Monterrey, Ciudad
de México, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Zihuatanejo,
Mazatlán, Los Mochis, ya hubo mucha participa-
ción mexicana de un segmento de poder adquisiti-
vo alto y va en aumento.
Este torneo es sancionado por la Asociación
Internacional de Pesca Deportiva, IGFA.
El torneo de este año tuvo un alto grado de expec-
tación, porque la amenaza del huracán (Rick) puso en
riesgo la celebración del mismo, incluso hubo embar-
caciones que cancelaron su presencia por dicho riesgo.
Sin embargo, al final el clima fue benévolo y como
siempre se llevó a cabo un gran torneo.
