M
érida is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of
Yucatán and the Yucatán Peninsula. A veritable cultural center
and picturesque city, have features multiple museums, art
galleries, restaurants, movie theatres and shops. It also retains an
abundance of beautiful colonial buildings. Each year, the MACAY
Museum in Mérida mounts a new sculpture installation, featuring
works from Mexico and one other chosen country. Each exhibit
remains for tenmonths of the year. Mérida is also home to the Yucatan
Symphony Orchestra, which plays regular seasons at the Jose Peon
Contreras Theatre on ‘Calle 60’ and features classical music, jazz and
opera. La Casa de Piedra offers excellent local dishes, and it’s widely
considered to be one of the best restaurants of the region.

érida es la capital y la cuidad más grande del estado y península
de Yucatán. Un auténtico centro cultural y ciudad pintoresca. Es
el hogar de múltiples museos, galerías de arte, restaurantes y
centros comerciales. Así mismo, la ciudad alberga una abundante cantidad
de edificios coloniales. Cada año, el Museo MACAY monta una nueva
colección de esculturas, presentado obras de artistas mexicanos y de
otros países. La exposición se exhibe durante diez meses. Esta ciudad es
también el hogar de la Orquestra Sinfónica de Yucatán, la cual ofrece
conciertos dentro del Teatro José Peón Contreras en la Calle 60, en donde
también se toca jazz, opera y, por supuesto, música clásica
contemporánea. La Casa de Piedra ofrece excelentes platillos locales, y
es considerado uno de los mejores restaurantes de la región.
Barrancas del Cobre, Chihuahua

L
a Barranca del Cobre es un grupo de cañones localizados en la
Sierra Tarahumara en el noroeste del estado mexicano de
Chihuahua. Más extenso y profundo que el Gran Cañón de Col-
orado. Las Barrancas del Cobre se pueden atravesar por la ruta de tren
Chihuahua del Pacífico, conocido como “el Chepe”. Éste es un importante
sistema de transporte y un atractivo turístico. El Cañón debe su nombre
a una cañada famosa por sus minas de cobre, que se encuentran
en varios puntos del cañón a lo largo de 600 km. Creel, Batopilas
y Urique son algunas ciudades que se encuentran cercanas o dentro
del cañón; ofrecen varios servicios para los viajeros que cruzan por esta
zona, aunque se recomienda tomar la ruta completa por tren, ya
que ofrece impresionantes vistas del cañón y sus alrededores.

recommend for travelers to travel through the canyons by train, given the
spectacular views that canbe admiredby thismodeof transportation.
