tel that continues to accommodate behind its walls
passionate storiesworthyof their time; remembering
eccentric situations that happened inside it and cre-
ated froma love story that should bewritten as a nov-
el. The Mount Kenya Safari Club appears on the list of
“must visit” upon arrival to the continent, and is one
of the favorites in the international agenda of the be-
loved classics in hostelry around the world given its
fame, history and recent engagement with the eco-
system which surrounds it, the animal conservancy
center. Winston Churchill was its founding partner,
among other well known celebrities such as: Conrad
Hilton, Robert Hope, Bing Crosby, Lord Mountbatten,
prince Bernhard of Holland, Onassis and Anwar Sadat
which forged the fame of this place, associated today
with exclusivity. The initial ideawas to create a safari,
dreamthatRhodaLewisohndidn’ttakelightly.Choos-
ing toset asideher exclusive life inManhattannext to
her millionaire husband and daughters (which was a
scandal at the moment), to this adventurous woman
her conduct seemed extremelynormal. It was the 30’s
and Kenya was synonymof Game Hunting, luxurious
safari, adventures andmemorable journeys. It was an
atmospherefilledwithelegance anddistinction, built
by refined characters and the elite of the moment.
Rhoda didn’t take long in hunting her first elephant,
nor to fall in the arms of Gabriel Prudhomme, wealthy
Frenchmen, much younger than her, and owner of an
airplane. The affair ended with the abandonment of
her banker husband to make room for the wedding
ceremonywith the influent Parisian lad.

a un amor de novela. El Mount Kenya Safari Club figura
en la lista de obligaciones para visitar una vez llegado
al continente, y es uno de los favoritos en la lista in-
ternacional de los ya queridos “clásicos” de la hotelería
alrededor del mundo, gracias a su fama, historia y re-
ciente compromiso con el ecosistema que la rodea, el
centro de conservación de animales. Winston Churchill

hattan junto a su millonario esposo y sus hijas (cosa

aventureramujer se le antojo una conducta en extremo
normal. Corrían los años 30, y Kenia era sinónimo de
cacería, lujosos safari, aventuras, y viajes memorables.
Era un ambiente lleno de elegancia y distinción hecha
por refinados personajes constituidos por la elite del
momento. Rhoda no tardo mucho en cazar su primer
elefante, ni en caer en los brazos de Gabriel Prudhom-
me, adinerado francés más joven que ella y dueño de
un aeroplano, affair que culminó en el abandono de su
marido banquero para darle cabida a la ceremonia reli-
giosa con el influyente joven Parisino.
