Gastronomía
La cocina polinesia es el resultado de la fusión cultural
de sus habitantes. Está basada en los ingredientes de la
zona, en particular en losmariscos, el pescado, el cerdo,
el pollo, el arroz y las frutas tropicales, pero también
hay mucho de la influencia francesa. Además están
muy presentes la cocina vietnamita, china y por
supuesto, la inevitable cocina italiana.
Los pescados más habituales son el atún, el boni-
to, el Scar y el mahi mahi. Se consumen también
muchas gambas y langosta. Es frecuente el pescado
crudo, preparado con zumo de limón o vinagre y ser-
vido con salsa de coco. En cuanto a las frutas, las más
habituales son los mangos, los melones, las uvas, las
piñas y la banana, esta última presente en muchos
platos tradicionales. En cuanto a la carne, se utiliza
para preparar el plato típico, el ahimaa, pero también
en normal tomar carne de perro, sobre todo en los
atolones de Toamotu, y la carne de tortuga. El aliño
más común de la cocina polinesia es la leche de coco.
